Refuge Magoo
We love Refuge Magoo! They took the time to let us meet a few different dogs to make sure it was a good fit for our senior dog (who came with us to meet her future companion). They gave us honest feedback about some dogs we were considering (i.;e. this one plays a little rough and may not be a good fit for a senior, this one is high energy but will probably try to play too much, etc) and we really, really appreciated the helpful insightful suggestions. We adopted our newest addition back in October. He's perfect, and we adore him!I see folks complaining about the cost. The price can seem high at first glance, but our little guy came fully vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, brought to us (1 hr drive from the shelter), had been flewn in from another country, vet consultations, etc. 1400$ is really not a lot all things considered. If you've been to a vet recently you'll know that all of these things will usually cost much more than that. They also have many permanent residents to care for. ❤️The owner of Regue Magoo no-kill shelter may seem a bit tough, but she takes the welfare of the dogs very seriously. It's quite clear that her goal is to find a good match and forever home for her dogs.10 stars for Refuge Magoo!

Magoo is a great shelter with dedicated staff and volunteers who absolutely love and care deeply about the wellbeing of the dogs they care for. I am shocked to see how many people are complaining about the adoption fees, as if somehow getting a rescue should be equated to getting a discount dog". The whole reason you pay adoption fees is to buffer costs for how long dogs have been in care

In early 2022 I began volunteering at Refuge Magoo I can’t express enough how much I love this place. I have since also adopted the most adorable little pup who is the light of my life!! Laurence and the volunteers here are so dedicated to these dogs and find them the best possible outcomes!! Countless hours are given. It’s not the quantity of adoptions here rather the quality of adoption! Thank you to those helping supporting these dogs!

Volunteer who works here is very RUDE. What an experience! 1400$ for an adoption is a lot of money but I was willing to pay it because they take in refugee dogs. Having a high adoption fee like this already takes out a lot of prospects, but you have to also give your whole history of pet ownership. Someone who has never had a dog, has a better chance adopting then someone who has. They critique the decisions you have made as a pet owner. I do understand they have to look at paper and judge the families but there is so much more than just what is in one file. I'm just sad because we could have been a really good home for the pet and having a volunteer worker who is so rude relaying the information that you cannot adopt, is just like kicking someone when they are down.

Magoo Refuge is for serious dog owners who understand that dogs are an ongoing expense. I was comfortable paying the fee knowing my dog came from Mexico, and received all necessary vetenerian care prior to my adoption. The best part is that they will take time to match you with the dog that fits your personality, and lifestyle. Adopting a rescue is a long term commitment that needs to be well guided, I'm a happy dog momy.

Refuge Magoo goes above and beyond the rescue dogs. The owner puts her heart in soul into the shelter. The volunteers here are kind, passionate and hard working. Yes the adoption fee is high but people forget that all dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, vet checked and neutered. You also get the support from the shelter throughout your dogs life. There is an adoption application process that she implements but only for the best interest of the dog and the owner to make sure they are the right fight for a life long commitment. Love all the dogs here they are so sweet - I would highly recommend adopting here and finding your perfect match ❤️

We had a wonderful experience adopting our dog with Refuge Magoo. They were quick to respond, friendly, and the foster family we met with clearly loved their foster pet. Highly recommend!

I found my forever baby, they give me about 5 minutes and the women took her back and I follow her to the cash, the cashier show the picture and said is it the one I was so, so happy,But! When she said “it’s $1,400.00 I almost fall on the floor, I know the price of all SPCA and other refuges it was unbelievable for me to pay that price. I left the place cryingI finally sent them an email asking them why they’re asking that much money when other place asked $400.00 the answer was our rent is $10,000.00 a month vet etc. Now I am telling them don’t you think you should move in a cheaper place. The place is very small, dirty and I did not see the place where the the dogs are. So sorry but the authorities should have a look of the place and the books? PS Je suis une amoureuse des animaux, les chiens en particuliers pas de mon portefeuille

We wanted to adopt a rescue and found refuge magoo while looking on petfinder. We had 4 in mind and when we arrived we were greeted warmly and within 5 to 10 minutes they understood our needs reviewed the dogs we we’re interested in and helped us vet the best match quickly. They were honest and knowledgeable about each dog and guided us to a dog that would be the best match. The dog they suggested was exactly what we were looking for and the adoption went smoothly. Their fees may seem high but once you realize that they are bringing in dogs from other countries, providing all vaccinations, microchipping , and delivery the dog to your home the costs make more sense. Finally they are a no kill non profit shelter so you are donating to the rescue as well. I found the staff great, and I highly recommend them if you are looking to rescue an animal that was saved and brought to Montréal.
