Star Anise Vietnamese Noodles
Toni was so knowledgeable and understanding regarding my Celiac Disease (Gluten allergy), she helped me avoid the few unsafe items on the menu and I had a fantastic supper.Thanks Toni!~

Star Anise Vietnamese Noodles
My wife and I were in the downtown area and decided to try this restaurant for supper. Not a great choice and we won't be back after paying $50 for two meals. Our first clue should have been that there was no one else in the restaurant until we finished when someone came in. The one star I gave was for the service which was good, the server was friendly. The menu was very limited most were rice or noodle dishes or soup. I ordered a pork and veggie on rice dish and my wife had the chicken curry on rice. The food came fairly quickly, again we were the only customers in the restaurant. My wife's dish could have been called rice with curry, because her bowl was 80% rice. The curry consisted of some dark chicken pieces and the veg was large pieces of onion, a few slices of carrot and 3 spears of asparagus. She didn't finish it. My pork was mostly fat and the veg... Haha, was 2 heads of broccoli, 1 head of cauliflower and a small amount of shredded carrot. I didn't finish the rice. So yeah you probably guessed by now I do not recommend this place. I'm kinda surprised it's still open after being there for years.

The food was good. Fresh. And the staff treated us well. Kind.Overall a good experience.Just think that the prices were a bit higher, which might be the only thing that would stop me from going there again.

Great service and decent Vietnamese food. The only meat choice is chicken or beef which kind of narrows down choices

Decent Asian food at a decent price, but I would not consider this as an authentic Vietnamese restaurant.Our dishes were served fairly quickly, and tasted ok, but nothing that really stands out.Simple dishes that seemed more Chinese than Vietnamese.

Note: The need on the plate in my picture was from bowl to plate. That's not chewed and spit out, that's the new quality standard I suppose.Very disappointed. Until today, had I been asked where the best pho in Atlantic Canada can be found my answer would have been Star Anise. Great service, broth to commit atrocities for and a very nice in restaurant ambiance.Fast forward to my experience this evening. My partner and I waited over 90 minutes after ordering to receive our fresh spring rolls and then an additional 15 minutes for our Pho.While waiting I observed the majority of dine in customer were also waiting and sitting foodless at their table while countless Skip/UE orders went out the door for over an hour.When we finally did get our Pho, the disappointment was literally unpalatable. The beef in our Pho must have been grabbed from the discard pile of trimmings. The beef was tiny little fatty and grizzly pieces, easily a 4:1 ratio of grizzle to meat. The bowl was also lacking in colour, containing maybe 2 basil leaves and a sad little lime sliver.The only silver lining was the broth was still fantastic, but the broth wasn't worth the price and terrible experience. I won't be driving into Halifax anytime soon to eat here again, and I would maybe only recommend the establishment to spite someone now.I hope when I do have the courage to gamble with my free time and come back in the future I am able to erase this review and experience from my history. Until then, genuinely disappointed.I should mention when we nicely pointed out the state of the dish after finishing all we received was a Thank you"."

Star Anise Vietnamese Noodles
This was a very nice place, my boyfriend had a Vermicelli plate and I had a chicken rice noodle soup. They were both very good, I also loved the spring rolls and the shrimp and pork salad rolls. Some of the items are a bit too heavy on the cilantro for me personally but it was still very good. The restaurant is very pretty and comfortable on the inside, and the staff is kind and efficient

Star Anise Vietnamese Noodles
I had the SS1 sampler grilled chicken with rice noodles soup and it was amazing. Great service and very nice staff. Would definitely recommend!
