The CMRAO helps to protect consumers in Ontario’s condo industry and is a regulatory body providing oversight of condo managers and management companies. Condo managers and management companies have to be licensed. Their public registry online provides information about all licensees. I have yet to see how effective they are in handling complaints.

Don't waste your time, money and energy with this group. You will spend months going through the process, the stress and the anxiety of trying to get help just to end up with the case being dismissed because the matter is out of their jurisdiction. I would think they should know this upfront and not 5 months later!!!

The manner in which condominiums are managed requires a complete overhaul. The current system allows for too much power in the hands of a few with no checks in place. It doesn't work.

Not helpful at all. Their staff said that don't have any authority to step in legally? What's their purpose exactly then? Why are we spending valuable tax dollars to pay to staff this office? It would be better to protect condo unit owners the same as tenants at least their voices would be heard.

The Mediator in my case was very helpful, however, if you do not have your Condo Corp nor Board support and a lot of hard evidence, the Respondent will keep on denying your allegations. My opinion is the Mediator should be given more power to enforce. I spent a lot of time and some money on my case but, I have learned it's best to move out because Condo bylaws are not enforced and if they are, it takes a very, very long time. Some residents just don't care that they live in a community and show disregard & disrespect for their fellow neighbour. They are the ones that should move into a house and leave the bylaw abiding residents to enjoy their community living!

Not helpful and have no authority. Waste of tax payers money to have this association whose staff just refer you to their documents on their website and nothing more!

Tribunal hearing for Noise was an egregious waste of 5 months. I did not know that unless you are a Condo Corporation, you will not win or get justice of any kind. (Look at the Decisions and Orders). I provided mountains of solid concrete evidence. The Corporation and Respondent were uncooperative, mostly absent, late with deadlines and extremely hostile witnesses (yet in the final decision, the Adjudicator, to my shock, sided with them every time). The Adjudicator went from being a kind caring social worker-type for 4 months to a Frankenstein-ish Roy Cohn when making her final public decision. All the mountains of solid concrete evidence I presented were buried, and/or twisted with vague and unsubstantiated shade thrown at it throughout and the less-than-basic duties of the Corporation blown up and embellished. What a travesty. The CAO's not-so-secret mandate, I've learned, is to protect and/or enrich the Condo Corporation, full stop. They couldn't care less about owners or their concerns. The only options for condo Owners in Ontario are: Selling/moving or Superior Court Justice (and taking on the high-risk indemnification for legal fees if you lose against a Condo Corporation, the biggest travesty of them all.)I had a similar experience with the CMRAO and the same Property Manager. Again, after about 6 months, the case was dismissed bk the Property Manager wrote a fraudulent letter to exonerate himself, which the CMRAO knew was fraudulent, based on the beyond-a-shadow-of-a doubt evidence I provided, but it still didn’t meet their burden of proof which was a Court of Law/Tribunal decision that it was fraudulent i.e. once again taking on that high-risk indemnification for the condo corporation’s legal fees if you lose…I’ve learned this all the hard way. Sharing so that others don’t have to.(Oh, and a much better use of Govt Funding would be to replace the entire CAO staff with 1 Condo Corporation Lawyer providing free advice for Condo owners.)
