From start to finish my experience with Grae at Black Cat was above and beyond! I’m going to leave a pretty thorough review, but the short of it is that Grae was wonderful at communicating from start to finish, takes pride in their work and really cares about what they do, and went out of their way to make me feel comfortable.Pre-tattoo: Grae’s instagram (@graesalisbury) has all the info you could need before booking, organized into highlight reels. You can see what their physical space in the studio looks like and the process for the session (along with detailed information describing their informed and ongoing consent practice, which they also went over in person). Having all this info accessible is so helpful for anxiety or if it’s your first tattoo!Black Cat Studio: the studio has a really lovely vibe, with a waiting area full of beautiful art and merch for purchase. Everyone I encountered was so nice!Session: Grae was very patient and took time to make sure I was comfortable by accommodating my noise sensitivity (I forgot my headphones so they got a speaker and set up low-fi music), and helped sort out a way to do one of my tattoos sitting up as I was anxious about having to lay down. They never made me feel rushed or like I was being a burden, and explained everything to me along the way. Their station was clean and they were very thorough about sanitation!The art: just beautiful! I’ll add some pictures to my review after they heal.The other artists at Black Cat all have wonderful flash, and it’s clear that the whole studio takes sanitation, consent, and comfort very seriously. It’s an inclusive space, very calm/welcoming, can’t wait to book more tattoos here in the future!

I've had two custom tattoos done by Cate at Black Cat and had an amazing experience each time! Each healed great & I get tons of compliments. The space is clean & welcoming, everyone there has always been very friendly, and Cate was wonderful and professional at every step of the process. Great artists, super reasonable rates, and a very cool community-minded space. I'd recommend it to anyone whether they're getting their first tattoo or are filling in the little space they have left.

I got my first tattoo at their old location in 2019 and was so reassured by their kindness, cleanliness, and overall good vibes! Both artists who were in the studio the day of my tattoo were so wonderful and welcoming and explained the process so that I felt comfortable getting my first tattoo. It healed wonderfully and I love it!I got a beautiful crocus tattoo by Cate on Friday at their new location. Both the studio and the tattoo are beautiful! I’m in love with my new art and felt so comfortable and relaxed while getting it done! The entire studio was clean and full of beautiful art and flash on the walls! Every artist is genuine and fun to chat with, and has their own unique beautiful art style! Highly recommend!!

The artists here are incredible! So talented and friendly, and while I was a little nervous because this was my first tattoo they made me feel so at ease. Would recommend them to anyone who is interested in tattoos, but nervous about the experience. Paige was absolutely amazing! Nailed the custom artwork, she made the design so much lovelier than I could have imagined! The tattoo was quick, clean, and stunning. Thanks again Paige!

I attended a flash day at the studio and it was wonderful! Cate was professional and friendly, my tattoo came out gorgeous, and the studio itself was such a welcoming, inclusive, and comfortable space. Definitely recommend!

The best tattoo experience I have had! I saw Grae, and they were so communicative throughout the whole process! I have never felt as comfortable in a tattoo session as I did with them. The piece turned out amazing, and I am definitely going to be booking with them again! 10000000/10 recommend!

Angela (milkthistle) was amazing!! They were so thorough with explaining what they were doing when they were doing it, I felt so comfortable and relaxed. She was also super receptive to my suggestions on placement and sizing and made me feel very confident in the tattoo. The design is beautiful, the work itself is great, I am so unbelievably happy with how it turned out, truly exceeded my expectations. The studio itself is excellent, such a beautiful, peaceful, bright, and airy space. 10/10 would recommend Black Cat Tattoo and Angela for your tattoo needs!!

I got a flash piece from Elise at Black Cat and I could not have been happier with both the experience and resulting tattoo. She is not only kind and patient if you need breaks, but also really fun to talk to! The studio is very clean and everyone I interacted with was lovely. I can’t imagine a better tattoo experience.

Despite Cate's fast and clean work, every time I look at the piece I'm reminded it wasn't the size I wanted and that she cornered me into it.I am well covered and while traveling really wanted to get a piece done. I had an idea and found what I wanted amongst her flash. I waited a few months and traveled yl get it, rented an airbnb, etc.Waited some hrs for my appointment oy to find out she had a cancelation before and could have seen me earlier.I changed the location of the tattoo and we tried a few sizes. I decided i wanted the bigger size but she was lazy to do the stencil over again and bullied me into keeping it. She didn't respect t my request and I was embarrassed to press further as people were now watching.She worked really quickly and by the end I figured it was because she didn't want to be late to have dinner at the shop with her friends who were arriving by the end of my appointment .She had never given me the quote previously, as I had waited for and cha red me based on a bigger size.I am not one to fuss and wanted to just leave as it was awkward with her friends there wanting to eat.It's just unfortunate that despite it being a flash piece, I was excited but it was far from reciprocal.(As a hairdresser of over a decade I'm well aware what service looks like)
