Jane's Rock Shop

Visited this sweet shop today with my three daughters. Approached the counter to pay and asked for 4 lollipops on the counter. The blonde haired lady who was serving me I now believe to be the shop owner proceeded to abuse and shout at me in front of my three daughters and all the other customers. The reason for the abuse was that I asked if the lollipops contained any nuts as my daughter has a nut allergy! She said ‘’I wouldn’t like to say’’ I politely said ‘’it’s your job to know’’ she replied ‘’that’s my telling off for the day’’ to other customers. I said your rude and ignorant. She then shouted across the shop while I was leaving “I am not ignorant, you’re ignorant you horrible man” My 9 year old daughter was upset by how insensitive she was towards her nut allergy. Avoid this shop!

I was having a lovely day until I made the mistake of going into this shop. The lady behind the counter was lovely. But the other woman I believe to be the owner was rude. I was not wearing a mask as I am exempt. She said she did not care.. truly a person with issues. She pulled faces at me and told me a was selfish. All this whilst holding her visor in her hand and not wearing a mask herself. Very discriminative. Dose not deserve your custom.

My wife went in and was about to buy some rock. A gentleman came in with his young son who had just bought some rock, but discovered on leaving the shop it was broken. Rather than just replace the rock with another stick, the shop staff, told the man and boy, in a rather officious manner that the rock was not broken before it left the shop and they would not replace it. The boy was distraught ( maybe bought the rock as a gift for friend, who knows). Needless to say, my wife did not buy what she had chosen. Point is, the shop lost the custom from my wife today and at least two families will not enter again. Clearly this kind of behaviour is typical from other reviews. A little compassion would be a win-win. If the shop owner had apologised and spoken kindly to the boy and replaced the rock ( whether it was broken before or after leaving the shop- it’s a stick of rock costing them a few pence, not fine porcelain), they would have got money from my wife, made the boy and his dad happy, have had two families who would probably return to the shop and have got a positive review on here, thus making more profit in the future. As it is, they have caused unnecessary upset and made a bad business decision.

My 5 year old has better manners than this shop owner. Truly disgusting customer service, please keep your children away from this vile woman.

Attempted to enter the shop with my pram to be turned away as no pushchair policy. I had already waited outside the shop for a while looking in the window and only attempted to enter once the shop was empty!I eventually came back once my husband had rejoined me and bought a few items. Tried two different fudge - they taste disgusting! Perfume tast and although may have the texture of fudge, certainly do not have the taste. Don't waste your money in this shop! Buy elsewhere.

I don't suppose another bad review will make a dent in this woman's scales.. God, she has a heart like a bone.Never again will I subject myself to such rudeness, vitriol and and shocking attitude.Shop keeping? This is how NOT to do it....Laughable

I would leave no stars if possible. I entered the shop with my toddler and 5 year old only to be told I couldn't come in because I had a pram - absolutely ridiculous! There was plenty of space and my son was very confused about why we had to leave. Thankfully there are other much more friendly sweet shops in Whitby - avoid Jane's rock shop and spend your money in a much more pleasant environment.

Can't complain about the customer service i received when buying several sticks of rock. The rock itself is as i expect rock yo be..... crunchy and sweet. Plenty of variety in terms of flavour and size.

Absolute garbage. Bought several items, some for us and some to give as gifts and they tasted ultra sweet and full of chemicals. This tastes nothing like any nougat or fudge I've ever tried. We both felt sick after trying some and so whole lot went in the bin. Wish I had read the other Google reviews before buying!
