The Florian Hotel

I wrote a review of our FOOD experience but can't seem to find it in your publicly shared reviews. I expect it hasn't been posted because it was NOT a favourable review. But I will rewrite it... and more because after all the hype and the HIGH DOLLAR meal, I'd like it to be acknowledged at least! We arrived for our reservations and was promptly seated looking out on a bleak dirty unkempt back of the hotel. The waterscape was quite a distance away. After ordering, we waited and waited and waited, (over one hour). I had order the Special of the day, (Halibut) because two of the items I actually wanted from the menu was not available. The halibut was less palatable then an old dried up dish rag and because I was ravenous by time it arrived, I got most of it down with the help of a jug of water. It was sitting on a bed of wet & limp greens. Two of our party ordered Panfried Cod with mashed potato. The cod was opaque and barely warm plus dripping wet running down over the bowl of runny mashed potato. The fourth member of our party had pasta with chicken & tomatoes & bread. The waiter asked her alone 'how was it' when he was picking up their dishes( I was still trying to get the halibut down); she said good. He never asked anyone else 'how was it'!! $55.00 out of pocket for me (tip in).. I'm ashamed to say I left without asking to speak to your much acclaimed chef. I was appalled at that point and did not trust myself to speak 'just the facts'. The two stars are for the waiter.

Highly recommend the Florian Hotel in Forteau! Rooms were clean and staff were friendly! And make sure you dine there! Seafood chowder was one of the best I ever had and the maple glazed salmon was number one! We were a group of 12 heading to Battle Harbour and could not have selected a better place to overnight! Hats off to Chef Agne!

Wow! This place really lived up to the hype I was reading in the other reviews. The rooms are gorgeous, clean, quiet and safe. The owner (& chef) was lovely at check-in. We only stayed one night, but had a lovely experience nonetheless. The dinner was fantastic - we had the lemon cod special & the burger and fries (the fries were AMAZING), view from the dining room was beautiful.. I could have happily stayed there all evening.

Stayed elsewhere but the food here is fantastic! Fresh, gourmet and delicious!Nice sized portions, delicious fish(we had salmon and cod) and delicious sauces and salads. We’ve already made reservations to come back tomorrow and we very much highly recommend eating here!

The hotel is clean and welcoming. Rooms are a good size with either ocean or hills views. The food was awesome. Try yhe cod with Berries. The restaurant has great views of the bay. Lastly, the price was very good. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay.

I didn’t expect to find one of the nicest hotels I’d ever stayed at during my trip to Labrador, but the Florian took me by surprise. It had beautiful furniture and decor both in lobby spaces, its restaurant, and of course its rooms as well, and everything was cleanly and neatly kept. The rooms we booked were spacious and had all the amenities we needed. The breakfast selection was good, and service was friendly. We met the owner and had a lovely chat about the hotel, his kids, and more—great guy, great hotel!

Sorry, but this place and the surrounding area were bleak and colder than expected. We checked in (we had prepaid for two nights) and left without using the room. We caught the 6 PM ferry back to Newfoundland and drove for 4 hours to get to a spot closer to our Airbnb rental. We simply weren't prepared for this area as vacationers, which is no fault of the motel. Based on the other reviews of this motel, however, I expected it and the restaurant to be outstanding. Not in my book. The lobby was bizarre (to us) - a weird scene. The restaurant had a minimal menu, including a $45 steak, but admittedly, this one appears to be a positive stand-out based on the rest of the restaurants around. The room - we stepped into it momentarily - was clean and updated-looking, but the window looked out onto a dirt parking lot. Hill view? Hah! Just more bleakness that we couldn't take.

While in Labrador, we didn’t stay at the Florian but did try their dining room. The dining room view is spectacular looking to the landscape with big windows all around. You could come here and just get lost looking out. The service was okay but for fine dining, there were finer points lacking like removing the unseated place settings. The menu was a little ratty looking as if it was wet at one point and the theme isn’t consistent with the boutique/fancy feel of the website or otherwise. Their overall attention to detail in the dining room was lacking though all staff were polite and courteous. The food was good but again, for a “fine dining” experience, not quite executed as well as it should have been. That said though the food was acceptable and by no means sub-par… just that for a supposed higher end dining experience, it was not up to snuff.The options were good though and we didn’t have any issues. Food was hot and served in a timely manner. I just think there is lots of space for improvement to be a really high end place.

As nice of hotel as you will find in Labrador, but the food is out of this world.

Very clean and modern hotel. Nice furnishings. Beautiful view of the ocean- and ice burgs at this time of year. Food at the restaurant in the hotel was the best I've ever had in my entire life. This place is definitely a hidden gem.
