Cape St. Mary's, North America's most accessible and one of the most spectacular seabird colony! At the southwest tip of the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland, washed on three sides by the restless Atlantic, lies Cape St. Mary's. Since 1983 this irreplaceable natural treasure has been strictly protected as a Ecological Reserve.Cape St. Mary's is one of six gannetries in Canada.

An amazing reserve to see gannets, murres, kittiwakes, razorbills, and other birds and wildlife. Surprisingly untarnished. Lots of dieback from avian flu, but still impressive.

I went there late April. It's an extraordinary place with a lot of wildlife. Totally worth to visit specially if you love landscapes.Tips:- The road there is paved but it's also narrow, watch out for other cars. If you don't see anyone, do not speed there, the terrain is uneven and you can damage yourself and your car.- During winter and early spring there's no one there, take care since it's a very windy place and I'm not really sure if my phone signal was working.- Respect the trails already in place and don't create new ones by stepping outside them, we can maintain the place more untouchable.

It was very foggy on the day I went but the birds are so close you can still see them. They nest on these rocky cliffs that go straight down to the ocean. The road along the beach to get here has one great view after another. Bye the way the road is poor with lots of pot holes and patches so beware. Also this place is not for handicapped people. The walk out is very rocky but fairly flat.

5/5 stars is not enough to describe the experience. It’s one of the few places that you can be so close, so intimate, to behold an amazing part of the animal kingdom. The trails are always open no matter what time of day, it’s short, sweet, to the point. The bird’s rock is the final destination and it’s literally an arm’s length from the birds. Wow. Worth every minute of the 3 hour drive from St. John’s.

Beautiful scenic view and amazing bird watching experience. Water-resistant clothes and boots are highly recommended as most of the time this area is wet and foggy

Wonderful interpretive centre with knowledgeable staff. The trail to view the sea birds was easy to navigate and a short distance to the view the birds up close. There is no guard rail so caution with children or those with physical limitations is an important consideration. The views were spectacular and well worth the short hike.
