This is the best school. Teachers are extremely helpful and supportive. I adore all the staff; they are all willing to help you no matter what because it is their duty. I went through a lot, but I was able to graduate with my high school diploma thanks to the staff's dedication to my education. One day I'll pay a visit to the staff. ❤️

TL;DR: Not one of quality but not too bad either. The school had a few amazing staff like Mr. Evanson and Mr. MacCarl, who were there for the students besides success or connecttime. But the staff such as the librarian were super rude when we needed to access the computers, trying to make me pay up some debt that I already did back in middle school. I also found it rather hypocritical that students were penalized for forgetting to bring their lanyard but the teachers weren't.It is fairly safe to be here compared to other high schools because fights are less common here. The location is convenient with plazas nearby and having a walking distance for me. Since the school is not giant, it is faster to travel to classes, except for gym class.I am not an architect, but the idea of the school not having a gym until the third year was bizarre. Even the gym locker rooms we had in the first year were never used again after my first year without an explanation, and they were only the tiny square units that barely fit a class. There are a lack of lockers in a hallway that only make up for a fraction of the student population. It is also inefficient to rely on the YMCA center to access the rest of the gym. I have been to schools like Lester B. Pearson which had their own gyms and a much larger field.

This review is about a very odd teacher one whom has harassed many students, female ones in particular. His name Mr Daniel he teaches social studies to grade 10 and 12 students. He is constantly making inappropriate comments towards the students and makes them uncomfortable. He is far too interested in their personal lives and makes assumptions about their love lives which makes many students feel extremely uncomfortable. He should not be a teacher. Something needs to be done!!!

the amount of opportunities this school has for us gamers is insane, as my fellow classmate ninja said. The Valorant course is amazing and taught me everything I needed to pursue my Gaming Career. Highly recommend for gamers.

With the way the teachers take things into their own hands despite being really outnumbered is incredible ( 80/1800+). Heck even honor students every semester. Parents you wouldn't really have to worry about having some stereo typical highschool experience here there's no such tropes like the mean girls or something like that. There's only 2 main tropes here, the ones who don't really care; just getting through life & then people who are really just wanna be's. However I wish the school could do something to prevent or at least further address about the cyberbullying that happens on Instagram @NHSRandos or something. Where students take pics at scho & send to the anonymous account to post. I saw a review saying there's no student voice but I think it's not students taking the initiative to begin with.

Currently in grade 12, and I love how well my first couple years of school were. Really good teaching staff, who engage and help their students. A place to handle schedules and insure you pass is always a good thing to have, but when students are changing courses because they don't like something or want something else creates problems for students who have valid reasons for changing courses. Other than that, very good school, would highly recommend going here, especially if you are interested in becoming a pilot or working in the field of aviation.

The facilities are alright but lacking for a high school, despite the classrooms being packed like cans of sardines, since there are far too many students to fit comfortably. Some departments have great teachers, who truly seem to enjoy teaching whereas others simply see it as any other blue collar job. To the extent of saying they would rather not deal with students as they’re not getting paid extra, it was a joke but didn’t feel like it. This school has its fair share of flaws but also great teachers, of course this is to change since I graduated and teachers are shifted around all the time.

This is a second review. I think this school is great and it has many straightforward, helping teachers, kind teachers, basically teachers of all kinds and thats okay. Their job is to help students be successful but I feel like the main job to help with student's success is the guidance counsellor. They need to learn manners when it comes to communicating with the student. If something is fr fr not possible like being in a course, they dont need to slam on you and push you to the side. I have seen students who try their best to get in the course they really need and it ends up working out if they push for it. If they really had to push that much, why not just move the student into the course in the first place. On top of that based on my personal experience I was having some sort of problem at school, bullying. The guidance counsellor called me a liar when we had a meeting with my connect teacher and parents, and told me that if I am bullied why am I going to those places, that I am just making it up cuz my actions dont make sense. And that hit very hard cuz first of all where tf am I even suppose to go other than the school, plus you dont have to be in a specific area to be bullied. Bullying is a much much more sensitive topic than your guidance counsellor judging it as bound to a specific location in your environment. Thats just so small minded, and after that happened and the behaviour she reacted with I left the school and I have been doing much better. This overall makes me feel like the office women and student services should really be chosen well and the calgary board of education should take the feedback from us students on this. They should do an orientation day with students and teachers. Not only simple surveys should be given, it doesnt grasp on the root problem. Instead we should have a session with a official cbe reprsentative and us students discuss our problems, questions, whatever about the school with em. Just a suggestion to eliminate the influence from student services and get directly to the problem.

Despite Nelson’s bad reputation, there are so many opportunities here in this school. The education is 5/5, shoutout to Mrs. Badeev, Mme. Julie, Mr. Daniel and Ms Gillis for their amazing teaching. If you’re part of the right social circles, you will have an amazing time. Also, the student support and admin staff is super helpful!

As a parent I can firmly say that this school is one of the best I've ever seen. Please don't let these other reviews fool you. Every department in this school works their hardest for student success. The teachers in every department are amazing! This school yields the highest math, and science diploma results. The teachers in every department work their hardest to ensure students are working hard. The student success department is an amazing tool to help plan out student courses. High School is where it gets tough, but this school is essential for this community. The administration in this school are the best i've ever seen. They take a lot of time out of their day to ensure student needs are being met. If anything this pandemic has taught me, is that Nelson Mandela is an amazing school. It is a blessing to send your children here! Hard work makes the dream work! I'm so excited to see future development in Nelson Mandela. I say this sincerely, being educated in Alberta is a blessing. Sending your children to a highschool like this is a blessing. Your children determine student success, their hard work determines student success. A singled out department is never to blame!
