I can't say enough about how awesome Chemainus Animal hospital is. I have 3 dogs and 3 cats and use a variety of different clinics depending on the situation and availability of appointments. They are all good clinics but Chemainus is the best of the lot.

An amazing group of talented people.After an amazing 17yr journey, I had to say goodbye to my dear friend.Dr. Jameson Pollok treated me with a great deal of class, respect and care while guiding me through this difficult process.The procedure was quick and painless for my dog (except the part when you have to let go). Although Dr. Pollok was patient and polite, what I appreciated the most from him was his honesty. His counsel was free of sugarcoating and false promises. Despite it being the hardest choice he ensured I made the right choice and I deeply respect and appreciate that. He could have easily sold me an expensive treatment that would have extended my friend's life for 6 painful months and made good money on it. Instead, he showed he is a man of integrity and ethically sound by giving me the truth.A special thanks to Saige, Megan, Tiffany, Carina, Nemira, Isabelle, Janelle and Denise for their professionalism and emotional support during that difficult moment.Thank you.Chase

We cannot thank Chemainus Animal Hospital enough for their kindness and caring professionalism over the last 5 years. We have had to euthanize 3 cats in that time(16, 17 years and recently a very sick 1 year old). Always a very thorough exam, options given to promote quality of life, and lots of time to talk about what's going on....sometimes you just need to talk and understand. I'm always surprised that the bill isn't more. One of the last privately owned clinics in the region - you don't want to go to most that are so obviously profit-driven.

Not in the habit of writing reviews or complain online (better things to do), but I will make an exception. We have been customers of the Chemainus Animal Hospital since moving to the Island some 15 years ago. They have taken great care of our old cat who went over the Rainbow Bridge just during the high of Covid. Dr. Clouse and the staff were extremely compassionate and understanding and, despite Covid, they allowed us to be with him during the last few minutes. Over the years front end staff has changed, and some bad experience could happen (as in any business), but we never experienced unpleasant treatment, despite the fact that they are extremely busy and now understaffed. The fees we pay are very reasonable and not sure on what basis some reviewers think they are high (far from it). For those who complain about not seeing a Doctor in an emergency, all I can say try that with any family doctor or specialist. You will be referred to Hospital Emergency. We have dealt with Drs. Jay, Derrick, Clouse and now Christianson. They have always been very patient, compassionate and cared of our pets. Dr. Kari Christanson just saw our young Mainecoon cat and she was as competent/sharp as anyone can be. Strongly recommended.

I never leave reviews but this place is the best. everyone i have dealt with has been caring, compassionate and polite. Dr. Heidi is amazing, so sweet and takes the time to talk with you. The other vets i have dealt with are also very kind. This place is so reasonably priced and i don't feel like i am getting robbed or that my dog is getting exploited when i go there.I switched to CAH from provost vet when i found out my dog had a tumour because provost was so expensive and the staff seemed burnt out, annoyed and lacking empathy. SO glad i switched.

One star is far too many and I am very surprised that anyone had a good experience with this Veterinary Clinic. I have a very sick cat who has been vomiting and I can't get any decent Vet to help me. I was brushed off with a cold and uncaring receptionist who informed me they were not taking in any more pets. They could not show some compassion or caring to fit my poor sick cat in. I stopped into the office to vent in regards to how uncaring and unfeeling they were towards a poor sick animal. I was told sorry that I felt that way. Yeah RIGHT I am sure they are very sorry! When I informed it had nothing to do with my feelings but getting help for very sick cat the female vet smirked. Further more, I know of many people who have no use for the attitudes of the receptionists. One Lady I know had a real emergency with her cat that was close to dying and ultimately did pass away. Think they cared not a chance, Instead they wanted to know the woman's cats records and what this woman's financial situation was. I am new to Chemainus and I love the small community feel of Chemainus majority of the people who live here are nice but not in the Veterinary field. The employees at Chemainus Animal Hospital are cold and unfeeling with zero compassion for an animal in desperate need of medical help. They just don't care! Will be sharing my experience with everyone I know and meet to avoid this Veterinary Hospital. You would think they would love and care for animals. So sad my poor sick cat ! Makes one wonder how they got all those good reviews????

We have had nothing but positive experiences here. Despite seeing multiple vets, they always gave us the best care and options for our dog. Unfortunately with him being a pure bread he had to come visit more often in his first year of life than we would like, but we always left knowing we had the most information possible. Heidi has also recently done cherry eye surgery for our dog and her method was amazing. Quick healing and looks great.
