Teamsters Local Union 987

First of all on behalf of Loblaws 1904 I just to thanks Jim and 987 local for a job well I done on our new contract. I have been a shop steward for almost 12years This is the best contract we have ever have. Thanks once more guys. May God bless you guys and your families for all the sacrifices you guys are making Protecting and as the same time providing jobs for people during this time time of tough economic we facing. We will always be grateful for what you did for us Jim.

I have been a member of Teamsters Local 987 for over 19 years. My experience with this Local has been overwhelmingly positive. As the years have gone on, I've come to understand and respect more and more both the principles of the Union and the people that work in the Teamsters 987 office who uphold these principles. Principles of genuinely listening to and supporting Teamsters members, and providing sound advice and action. I've witnessed so many times Teamsters business agents taking on challenging grievances, upholding the collective agreement, and assisting union members on a wide spectrum of issues from payroll, health and safety, personal issues and beyond. I've been a Union Shop Steward at Loblaws Edmonton since 2007, and have been privileged to represent my fellow Teamsters Members, and in the process have been able see and understand better why the Union is so important, still relevant today, and what it takes for a Union to keep principled. What it really takes is having people with integrity leading the way. Jim and the leadership group at Local 987 really care about the Teamsters members they represent, and that drives them day in and day out. I've spent time at Collective Bargaining, worked in the Local 987 office helping with organizing campaigns, and the more I've gotten involved, I've seen first hand the dogged work ethic and quality of character of the people that run the Local. Having said all that, this doesn't mean life is perfect. With thousands of members in our Local, there will be differences of opinions, and not everyone will be happy all of the time. But for me, a test of the character of a leader is clearly shown through their dedication, compassion, and thoughtful counsel towards others; and this is exactly what I have seen from the leadership of Jim at Teamsters Local 987. I encourage anyone who wants to learn more to get involved, talk to your Local 987 business agents, volunteer, and work together, because we're all in this together!

I was and (still am) relatively new to being a Shop Steward when I had to go bargain for a new union contract. I had the list of things my coworkers (and I) had voted on and it was my job to make sure we got most of what was on that list agreed to. Jim, with all his experience and knowledge, was able to help me with this process. He didn't talk me into anything, but gave me suggestions and sound reasoning whether it was good or not. Any decisions made, are up to the individual NOT the people that work at Teamsters local union 987. Thank you local 987 was having mine and my coworkers best interests at heart and because of that, we were successful !

I have been a Teamster 987 Member for more than 33 years. In that time I have seen a lot of changes within the work force and Local 987 have been there all the way. I am proud to be a Teamster 987 Member and have seen for myself the hard work and dedication the Local has put in over the years. I have known the Edmonton and Calgary Executives and Business Agents for well over 30 years, and the integrity and work ethic is impressive. Jim Haryett the Secretary Treasurer and Business Agent of 987 has worked tirelessly over the years to be fair and fight for workers rights. Jim is very dedicated to 987 Members and is always available to hear concerns or respond to any issues that might occur.

I have been a member for 26 years .. union rep for last 12 years . Nothing had made me more proud than to work with the union to negotiate contracts for my members .I was even a training manger with my company at one time. Helping my members get the best possible shot at having the best possible career’s at our facility. Jim Harriet has worked endlessly to help negotiating,paperwork, time and effort.. I have been a member of local 987 since 2009 and not a day of that have I ever questioned the devotion and dedication to having the members best interests from Jim Haryett or Wayne Skene. I have been a shop steward for most of those years and some of those were very unstable and rocky with management choices. Through out everything I always knew that Jim and Wayne had our backs and they have proved that over and over.Shelley Miller

I have to say that my experience with Teamsters 987 has been very positive.Jim has always had our backs.Though, I don't always agree with how the majority may vote on certain issues, I will always stand beside them with confidence.

As a member of this union, for 30 years, I can honestly say they always have our backs on every major issue, have negotiated pay increases on every contract, as well as many other things to improve working conditions. Jim has always looked out for the best interests of the membership and still continues to do so.

I have been a teamster member for over 30 years, and a steward for almost 20. My involvement in union business regarding my employer and union shop employees is extensive.In my experience working with Jim I consider him to be genuinely concerned about our members issues. His ability to reach out and engage with members, listen, and articulate our concerns to management for working solutions moving forward is tantamount.Solidarity is about working for shared interests, and outcomes in collective bargaining are not always favorable. Learn from it and work with your union and employer to achieve better results in the future.Jim Haryett and everyone at local 987 are outstanding.Highest regards through all times.

I was member of local 987 for over 42 yrs. I have seen the good side of the union and also the bad side. It has always had the backs of union members even when shouldn't have.Contract negotiations were always interesting we would rejectt an offer and 2 hrs later the union would say we have a contract to vote on. Also I was little upset when all my years of being a union member looking forward gmretretirement ring and be told 6 months before that tgeg don't do it anymore.
