Cawthra Shelter
Great shelter but need to work on how they handle shelter seekers. Being homeless is for a short while for refugee claimants. All shall be well after some time.

I stayed at this shelter for one night after one of my abusive situations with the loser I lived with .Nobody cared to ask if I was ok or help me in any way even though I were a mess crying and terrified Visible bruises on my arms and face nobody cared .I also had to wait approximately an hour to talk with someone. asked questions that were not needed to be asked they gave me a sheet and a pillow that looked like it came from a dump The police or this shelter didn’t think to ask if I wanted to see a doctor If the police were knowledgeable they should have sent me to a domestic violence shelter not surprised because police these days do not care .. .I ended up going back to my abuser because I felt so uncomfortable and scared and alone there .and I feared him hurting my daughter as well as he often punished my daughter to hurt me ..I endured much abuse from him after that because my ex was angry about me calling police ..After about an hour of sleep I woke up and left I had tears running down my face only to be approached by a lady asking me where I were going I told her I am leaving she handed me bedding to go and make my bed before I leave I just ignored her .as I were so upset i couldn’t talk .I totally understand now why homeless people die in the streets in the cold because they dislike shelters . I have since left my abuser after him almost killing me and I found a domestic violence shelter on my own whom I owe my healing and the beautiful life I have created also for the loving caring and human decency /empathy they had shown me ..Cawthra shelter could learn a lot from them …

This shelter did me dirty where I got discharged without a transfer because I couldn’t find a Toronto shelter in time. Blessing has certain people wrapped around their finger, but I was given nothing except numbers to call when I couldn’t get anything from the intake right away. There is favouritism here.

They are really disrespectful, they don't take anyone homeless in, they only care about themselves. Very rude and non friendly service there.

Full capacity at the moment but staff was helpful enough to search for another shelter for you if in need.

When I stayed there, all my needs were met. I had a bed to sleep in. I had use of a shower to get clean. I had shelter. This is not a hotel people! There are people here from ALL walks of life. Do not expect to be catered to! Try being thankful that at least you were not out on the street!! Quit complaining.

Was trying to make a general inquiry about the shelter for research purposes(how many beds etc..). The staff member who picked up was so rude and trashy. To think these are the staff in charge of vulnerable people is alarming.

I called them to ask if they accepted clothes for donation and the staff member said yes only if they have been washed but no underwear or bras. It took me 20mins to get there with my donation bags and they told me they don't accept donations. I told them that I had been told they do if the clothes were washed and they said they don't. Get your facts straight before you waste people's time and gas like that.
