I adopted Poppy in February and it’s hard to imagine living without her! She’s the sweetest~The volunteers were very straightforward with her medical past and very helpful/knowledgeable while discussing her case before adopting her to me. It was a long process, but I think it’s wonderful that they take the time to know that their cats are going to good homes.I highly recommend them! They do great work and the volunteers are all very passionate about their cats <3

This shelter really cares for the animals that come into their care. The team were thorough to ensure we were the right fit and that she was going to a home that cares for her. Everyone was extremely helpful from beginning to end. Even after the adoption, they reached out to see how she is doing. Lovely place with caring staff, thank you EHS team!

We are so pleased with our newly adopted cat and are so appreciative of the great lengths all the volunteers go through to match the pets under their care to the appropriate person/family.They are beyond dedicated and I praise them all for their efforts. It is an extremely well run shelter in my opinion and I would recommend anyone to adopt a pet from this facility.

I adopted my 2 year old cat, Mio, at EHS. As a first time cat-owner and adopter, the process was much lengthier than expected. However, I felt that the thoroughness of the adoption process simply shows that the people at EHS do what they do well and care about the welfare of their animals and their forever homes. Mio is a shy cat, and the volunteers were very open and honest about the expectations and possible negatives" to adopting a cat like her. They made every effort to ensure that the decision to adopt was an informed one

We've adopted twice from the Etobicoke Humane Society, and both times were a great experience. We love how they truly care about the animals and have a robust interview process to make sure you're the right fit. They also take care of so much—from spaying to vaccines—that makes it super straightforward when adding a new addition to your home. Would 100% recommend and if we ever decide to add another kitten to the mix, we'll be back.

Discrimination. I applied to adopt a cat here after 4 years of planning and my girlfriend’s help and guidance (she has fostered cats for over 20 years and has 3 of her own at the moment). I had grown up with and owned dogs my whole life so I’ve had plenty experience owning a pet. The adoption form is very lengthy and we completed it together. I applied to adopt a healthy young cat with no health issues or socialization issues that they had listed on their website. I got a rejection email within 4 days without any reason why they rejected me or felt I wasn’t a fit for the cat. A couple days later I went to Toronto humane society, looked at the cats, picked out one. They interviewed me in person and were extremely helpful. I ended up taking the cat home the same day with no issues at all with ‘fit’. No wonder so many of their cats are in their shelter for months and months and some even years (which is not the greatest for the animal).

Recently adopted a lovely senior cat from EHS and the process was really great. They vetted me thoroughly to make sure I would be a good fit, provided lots of health information on the cat prior to letting me bring her home, and the follow up to make sure we're settling in was wonderful. Would highly recommend adopting your next pet through EHS.

My experience with EHS was brutal. Went through the whole process and during the interview was asked if I’d ever put my cat outside, to which I answered I never have before but am open to it. I guess that’s an automatic rejection. Tried to explain there was a misunderstanding because I never intended to let my cat out as I’ve always had indoor cats but got no response or reconsideration. They robbed a wonderful cat of a great home on a technicality. Honestly, I’d recommend a different humane society.

Unbelievably strict adoption process. As an experienced long term caretaker of a medically ill indoor cat (very expensive) I was surprised to be rejected due to minor details like opinions on food choices and a imperfect vaccination record.Your shelter is filled with animals from owners who abandoned them when it wasn't convenient, yet deny someone who has proven their long-term dedication through the good and the very bad times until the end because they weren't consistently vaccinated against diseases they'll never come into contact with as an indoor cat?I know you mean well and want the best for the animals you adopt out but come on - talk about missing the forest for the trees. The only redeemable part of the whole experience was Fiona, their adoption coordinator, who was a joy to work with.

EHS is a volunteer-run and no kill shelter that takes really good care of their animals. The adoption experience was efficient yet thorough. The volunteers allowed us to come meet the cats and made sure that we were the right fit for them, and they were the right fit for us. We had 0 surprises when we took our 2 cats home because of how well they prepared us. They are happy, loved, and well taken care of which set us up for success when they came home.
