Wonderful experience at SMH in February 2023! We were initially hesitant in coming to this hospital for our third pregnancy (our other option was BC women's where the previous deliveries took place), but are so glad we came! Despite a hiccup at check in (I had an induction appointment, but was made to wait for 3 hours in the reception area without being told why..found out later it was because my induction nurse had to end her shift early that afternoon), everything else that happened was great. The whole team there (nurses, OBs, peds, etc.) is so caring, cohesive, and diligent in their work! We felt very cared for and supported during our stay. Big shout outs to my OB Dr. Shan, who also happened to be the on duty OB that night, and my L&D nurse Tania! Both were amazing in the care they provided and made the experience so pleasant. The private labour & delivery room we stayed in was also super clean, comfortable, and spacious. Highly recommend this birthing unit/hospital!!

I had been to the hospital for my delivery. I had a wonderful experience with the nurses who supported me through out and the doctors. I would like to thank the team.

Would not recommend SMH to give birth at to anyone. This hospital made me feel very uncomfortable and most of the nurses were very rude and didn’t care to come check on me unless I pressed my call button and even then they still asked why I needed a nurse to come to my room. I have many other reasons as to why I don’t recommend this hospital but that’s a very long story, If I could I would give this hospital 0 stars

My overall experience in the maternity ward was great. Every nurse took good care of me except one of the epidural specialist Dr. Iyer, I was in so much pain and my nurse called her to top up my epidural she just refused upfront without even checking on me and after arguing with my nurse she gave me epidural top up without following up whether it relieved my pain or not. I was still in same pain after getting top up my nurse was trying so hard with her to come and see me but she came and start arguing again. Because of her my chances of going into C-Section increase as the pain was unbearable for me. It was when another epidural specialist came in Dr. Kalra, she talk with me gave me top up waited and checked when it didn’t work she redo the whole epidural again, gave me one more medicine on top of that which relieved my pain and I was able to give successful vaginal birth. I am very thankful to my nurse Maravarid and Dr. Kalra who made my birth experience better at the end.

I had my c section in SMH FBU recently and had a pleasant experience with the staff and the facility. All the nurses namely Kim the prep nurse, Maria (who was exceptional during 2 nights), Emma, Manpreet, Alice(Pediatrician) and the cleaning staff Geetha etc where so considerate and available for all help and queries. They took good care of me and my baby and catered to all our needs. The OR staff and doctor Maria were so compassionate and experienced. Overall my experience was wonderful

My wife delivered our first child here and we are very happy with the service that we received from the hospital. All the nurses and doctors who took care of her were really compassionate and polite. Seems like there is a shortage in number of staffs, however they are really working hard as a team to bridge this gap.

SMH had been in news for negative birthing experiences and I was scared to go there but had to visit 3 times prior to my delivery day. All 3 of my visits helped me shed that fear as the teams were great (thanks to Dr. Sarah Yager and Dr. Goldie). My delivery experience was amazing. Dr. Wong and resident Dr. Gen were great (I forgot the name of helping nurse). My nurse Supriya was always there on first ring. Only rough experience I had was with my night nurse Bing. She was always in hurry and would handle my baby so roughly. Apart from that, I had positive thoughts to share and a huge thanks to the team.

I had an amazing experience with my nurses Mary and Claudette, who were literal angels for my delivery. My midwives didn’t help me as much as these women did. I could depend on them more than my midwife. They answered every question, were so compassionate. My nurse Bin (not sure spelling but an older Punjabi woman) was the worst nurse I’ve ever had in my life. She minimized the pain I was in, kept giving me gas during contractions which didn’t work for pain, and kept pursuing me not to get the epidural. Worst nurse ever and I hope she gets fired for her lack of compassion. She didn’t even tell me that the epidural had a button I could press if I needed more pain relief.Dr. Kalra is one of the most amazing staff on there with the nurses. She gave me the epidural but was so sweet, gentle, and explained everything perfectly. Can’t thank her enough.

I recently had my scheduled C section at SMH. All of the nurses were wonderful, super kind, helpful and caring. The procedure went well and the surgeon was great. My complaint is the new shared postpartum rooms. When I had my son in 2021 everyone was given a private room but with this stay we were informed that we would be sharing a room with another family. The room was cramped with no privacy for a new family trying to get to know their new baby. My husband wasn’t even given a recliner to sleep in, he was given a chair that you would see in a doctors office waiting room to try to sleep on. His other option would be sleeping on the floor. Neither family got any sleep as when one baby would cry it would wake the other baby up. We had a disappointing and uncomfortable stay and were glad to be home. I hope the hospital considers going back to private rooms as it really did make the experience unenjoyable.
