Sushi Ryu
Didn’t expect such a modern looking restaurant when first walking in. We went at an off time so it wasn’t busy and our food came quickly. High quality fish, everything plated beautifully, service was amazing. I don’t really have anything bad to say about this place so if you’re going through Nanaimo, I highly recommend stopping here.

Very fresh ingredients and good selection on the menu -- some thoughtful combinations that I wish other restaurants had. But I'm scoring lower because these were the smallest, thinnest pieces of sushi that I've seen in 10 years. Also the Yam was undercooked (firm and crunchy). I'm sure on another day it will be better. I will give a second chance.

We tried this place out for Valentine's day 2023. Despite a full parking lot and a busy interior, they were more than willing to accommodate us. Barely a five minute wait.We split the takoyaki, which was crisp and delicious. The katsudon is extremely filling and certainly a meal all on its own. Perfectly cooked pork and the rice and veggies its paired with made for a delicious choice.We ordered two separate rolls, and they were larger than we expected. Ordinarily, we don't ask for a takeout box, but we had to here because we got so much food and didn't realize how large the portions would be in comparison to other sushi places we've visited.The server was kind enough to give us recommendations and some extra time with the menu. The food and the service combined with the atmosphere made for a great dinner. All in all, it was a wonderful first impression and we've ordered from there since then. Definitely worth the try, if you're in the north end for lunch or dinner!

Sushi is delicious and really fresh. The rolls have a generous portion of fish. Always love this place for takeout!

I always heard that this place and Nori were the best places for Japanese food in Nanaimo. Well they are certainly right but I haven't tried enough to judge between the two places. Ryu's lunch box for $18 was well worth it. It's way way better than an Edo $16 Bento box.

Almost always a great dinner. Prices have jumped a bunch, but I guess that goes the same everywhere. Great service and even brought out a giraffe toy for our grand daughter to use while there.

This is an average sushi place. We had the lunch Bento boxes and others had ramen. Flavors were ok and portion sizes were average. Service was pleasant the odd time our table was visited. It seemed like we're were forgotten as we had to ask/remind the servers on a few occasions that we needed portions of our meal as they were missing, utensils, and water.

We normally come to Ryu for sushi but will not be going back anytime soon. We waited over an hour and a half for our food. After asking for updates on the food we never received an update from our server. The food that did come to the table came a half an hour between one another. Paid over $50 to wait an hour and a half in the restaurant for some eventual food in a to-go container.

I have best dinning experience ever. Its my first time, I tried their chicken Yakisoba. Oh my god, its so delicious as well as their customer Service. I would recommend it.I am still in the restaurant but I can’t stop myself to post a review about them.

Good presentations of the food and rolls are delicious. Tempuras are nice and crispy. However, a few times I found the rice too firm for my liking. Overall I enjoy having a quick bite of sushi here.
