He fit me in last minute. Did a really thorough job. Called to clear what I wanted done and what I didn't and charged me a very reasonable rate for the work. Very professional, great experience.

I bought an SUV from Mel in December before Christmas, after the first day the vehicle didn’t run at all. When I called Mel he said that he would stop by and check out the SUV. He kept putting me off for about 2 weeks because he was busy at the shop. After waiting for 2 weeks, I got fed-up and walked to Canadian Tire to get a fuel pressure tester, which cost $70 out of my pocket to prove that there was a fuel delivery problem and to hopefully put me higher on his priority list. After texting him the fuel pressure numbers, he arranged to tow the SUV back to his shop. When I picked it up from his shop, it seemed to be working just fine until the next day. I tried to start it and I had the same problem as before where the vehicle would not start. I texted Mel and reported that it will not start. He said that older vehicles need the gas pedal to be pushed down in order to start. This did work however, it took from 5 to 15 minutes depending on temperature to get it idling. This whole time I was thinking that it was the fuel pump that was failing. Even after replacing the fuel filter, and cleaning the mass air flow sensor, there was very little change. After researching my problem I decided to fix whatever was cheap before fixing the fuel pump. The one thing that was causing the whole idle issue was the air idle control motor. After cleaning that air idle control motor my starting issues went away. I’m not a mechanic, however I’d expect that would have been one of the things that had been checked and cleaned. The other thing that was wrong with the vehicle was the brakes. When applying the brakes, the steering wheel would shudder. I replaced the rotors and pads in the front, which cost $200. When I was replacing the brakes, the piston in the calliper was difficult the push back in. I didn’t think anything of it, until I did a test drive. The brakes got so hot that they were smoking, I took the temperature of the rotors, and the reading I got was 171C.I replaced the callipers which cost $300 after the core fee. I was never informed about the brakes needing any work. The problems that I had are all safety issues and should have been taken care of before the vehicle was sold or at minimum I should have been informed about them. And this doesn’t account for the driver’s seat, battery and secondary brake switch for the master cylinder that was also broken.

I had a set of airbags installed by Mel & was very impressed with the service.Mel does a great job and his prices are much lower than the big shops and dealers. Thanks a lot Mel.
