Gabriel's Cafe
I like the Thai green coconut curry rice bowl for flavor and a huge serving of rice but it lacks vegetables, so I would recommend asking for extra veggies!

Came for breakfast (Sunday 10am). Small lineup to order at counter. Self serve (and water) seating. Food was brought to us. Breakfast was good but wasn’t impressive decoration and quality. Good to try.

Gabriel's Cafe
This is the second time I’ve had visit to this restaurant. I find the whole the atmosphere very positive. The food is made with great care and accommodating to the needs of the client. The flavours are fabulous because it’s downtown. There is a little bit of a challenge with parking but that’s how it goes when you come downtown Nanaimo, but it’s worth it. This restaurant is an excellent place to have breakfast and lunch. Here’s what we had at our latest lunch and I’m looking forward to coming back again. I would highly recommend coming to this place for delicious food.

I was very impressed with the delicious food! Staff very friendly, nice casual atmosphere. Food was so fresh and lots of healthy choices. It is farm to table and you can really tell. 10/10 would go back

Very friendly and quick service. The staff obviously takes precautions to ensure this place is COVID safe. You have to order at the counter to get your food!The food is fresh and wholesome. Nothing very special but good place to stop and eat a bite!The salad bowl was generous which I really appreciated but the dressing wasn’t a hit. The chowder was okay and the Malaysian curry bowls were okay.Their breakfast options look really lovely so I wish we had gone for that instead.

Highly recommend this cafe - great options for all dietary requirements - we had lunch (poke bowl and hash special) - it was so good we returned to have breakfast before leaving town today - food and coffee was good and the service was friendly and helpful

Just finished our breakfast from Gabriel’s. Enjoyed a yummy mimosa in the cafe while we waited, and took our food to go to the ferry terminal. Had a delicious picnic overlooking the bay. Food travelled extremely well. The special Benny and omelette were amazing.Really appreciated that it was open at 8am on a Sunday. Beautiful atmosphere and cute little patio out front.Thank you to your amazing cooks and front of house staff. Sincerely looking forward to visiting again when we are back on the island….might even have to move here.

Food: 3/5We got a black bean burger, tofu rice bowl and kids pancake.The burger felt too dry and its ingredients did not come together.The tofu rice bowl was good - had nice sweet and spicy flavors and well cooked veges, yam and tofu - all coming together.The kids pancake was just like a regular pancake. Nice and fluffy.Ambiance: 4/5A hip and modern but casual atmosphere. Nice wooden and warm feeling.Service: 4/5Would have liked them to be a bit more proactively helpful and empathetic. Giving them the benefit of doubt as we came close to their closing. They were right in asking us to leave but could have been empathetic and helpful to help us speed up rather than being straight toned.

Found this lovely neighbourhood gem as we were going for a morning walk down Commercial Street in downtown Nanaimo. Very friendly and courteous staff made us feel very welcome from the moment we walked into the restaurant, until we left with very happy and satisfied stomachs! The place has a simple, yet warm, relaxing, and open atmosphere - you can go for a meal or just a cup of coffee/tea and you would feel just as at home. Great selection of food items on the menu, and the prices are not too crazy for downtown Nanaimo. Parking is on pay meters on the street outside. Plenty of tables and seats inside, as well as a smaller patio/fenced-in area on the sidewalk outside. Highly recommended if you're in Nanaimo and you want a good, satisfying meal.

Gabriel's Cafe
Been staying in Nanaimo the last two weeks for work and stumbled across this place this week. I’ve been back every night since. The staff are so friendly and the food is so good. One lady has been there everyday and is so efficient and “on it” I thought she was the owner! I’d recommend the salmon burger, tuna sandwich or the pulled pork sandwich. I’ve also been treating myself to an oat milk hot chocolate occasionally and it’s top notch.
