The train ride was a lot of fun and really good. The people that work there are incredible and very enjoyable and we really had a good time.We thought the stopover was a bit too long especially with children there’s a few things to do in Grosse Isle, but not enough to see or do that takes more than an hour. Thank you so much for your dedication to the Grand Prairie central train and for the people to put on the train robbery. It was really fun.

Family went on fathers day and it was a great experience- you ll need to buy tickets in advance as they seem to sell out quick. Departure station out of Winnipeg was easy to get to as its located right off Center Port. Station itself has ample parking as well as handicap stalls. Theres a small gift shop on site that is open before and after the round trip. Gift shop takes credit cards/debit/cash. Bring a camera as theres some good photo opportunities with the train. Theres two engines they may use, the steam or the diesel. We had the steam engine that day - if you re wondering which engine they plan on using check the website or brochure in advance. When buying your tickets make sure to do some research because some seats face eachother and may be uncomfortably close to strangers if you choose poorly. Once on board the train departs for the small town of Grosse Isle Manitoba. It is about an hour journey there- the train moves relatively slow but thats part of the experience. You re able to bring snacks, food, and drinks on board if youd like. They stamp your ticket on the train shortly after departure so make sure to have them handy. The cart we were in was made in 1909 so as you could imagine there is no air conditioning on board so dress accordingly. That being said the windows fully open which allows a good breeze. On the ride there was a musician that played child friendly songs. Upon arrival at Grosse Isle Station you are met by a decent amount of local artisans and vendors. Theres food, drinks, ice cream, and locally made gifts available for purchase. Bring cash as the Grosse Isle vendors do not except cards and there is no local atm. There is a shaded structured picnic area to eat and rest as well as a playground and other kid friendly activities. You ll spend about about 90 minutes in Grosse Isle and then depart back to Winnipeg. The trip again takes about 60 minutes - we found most kids on the train fell asleep on the return journey. Once back at the station they had the model train club open their doors if you were interested. Overall great experience- there are several different themed events they run throughout the year. Granddaughter thought the Bandits were real until they took down their masks and showed them it was pretend. It was such a great time and we all enjoyed the trip.

I took the Prairie dog central to Grouse Isle. The event was train robbery cow boys and gals. (Role play)The people on horse back pretend to rob the train, donations for charity was collected. They also had banjo and guitar players. We were able to buy food, snacks and desserts at grouse isle. They had a old town to explore and we also got to see the horse and riders. You can also see the train engine and other carts. While you enjoy the ride they have a guide tell you the history of the old steam engine train.Take note when booking they have a diesel train and the og steam engine #3

My friend and I had a blast participating in the Hogheist!! The volunteers were all very friendly and loads of fun! Dressed as cowboys or cow gals and in uniform as porter etc they were an entertaining bunch! They performed and sang and it was just fun! The robbers on horseback were a real thrill! The food was good and there was lots to see at Grosse Isle. This was our first trip and definitely not our last!

We shared our 50th Anniversary celebration with just over 100 others on the PDCR. Very impressed with the communication to make all the arrangements - thanks Catherine. All rail staff were super friendly and supper arrangements in Grosse Isle were great. Everybody in Winnipeg should do this once at least.

Great location. Parking is available but could be busy on most of the days. Great way of hanging out. Value for money. I was under the impression that speeds gonna be high but it was around 20 to 30 ish. This ride is way better than going to digital places.Kids had fun. I am giving very rare 5 star because of customer service.I found most of the staff to be nice. Very well maintained of the sites and train.Mature guys handling and very entertaining. Attached few pics of the sights too. I recommend that ride to every person. GUYS DO BRING SOME SNACKS ON THE WAY.You can get food at the destination but incase you like snacking.
