Great Dojo. Sensei Brian is firm but fair, always encouraging. He teaches a good balance of emphasis on the basics, self defense and tournament tactics. We have been with him for a few years now, I have nothing but positive things to say about him and his dojo.

I put my kids in Sensei Bryan's class and I can see the improvement week to week. The classes are disciplined but fun and Bryan has a down-to-earth way of communicating that works with kids. You can tell he knows what he is talking about and takes instructng seriously.

Sensei Brian has been a wonderful teacher for our son from ages 3-5. Sensei brings a firm but fair approach to his lessons, and incorporates respect and fun into each class. Its been wonderful to watch our son form a bond with Sensei, and want to work hard and practice so he can show Sensei his improvements and hard work. We look forward to many more years at Westwood, as well as getting our other son started when he's old enough.

Sensei Brian is incredibly knowledgeable and approachable. My partner and I go there every week for the kickboxing/cardio classes. He has cultivated a welcoming environment for students at all levels of experience. The atmosphere of the gym is welcoming! You can always be yourself knowing the dojo is free of judgement. The facility and equipment are clean and well taken care of. Brian is an awesome teacher! We always leave having learnt something new or improved on our existing skills. Highly recommend to anyone!

I highly recommend Sensei Brian and Westwood Goju Ryu. My son and I have trained there for 4 years. Sensei Brian teaches with an ideal mix of discipline and encouragement. Westwood Goju Ryu is Karate BC affiliated, which is the provincial governing body of karate in BC. The Dojo is centrally located downtown Port Coquitlam and has ample parking.

Besides karate Brian also runs Fitness Kickboxing classes. In a high energy, fun and safe environment adult participants of all capabilities enjoy a solid hour of kickboxing. Classes offered three times a week. I have been enjoying the kickboxing classes for just over a year now, love the atmosphere and camaraderie between the participants. Great fun, great workout!!

We are parents to two boys who have been in Martial arts at Westwood Karate. For 8 years now our boys have learned more than just Martial arts. They have learned self discipline, respect for others, teamwork, dedication and honour. Our kids look forward to their lessons every week with Sensei Brian.As parents we couldn't be more satisfied with how our kids have thrived at Westwood Karate and we highly recommend this place for anyone who has children. Took my son to do a couple trials at different dojos. He said he liked some of them but this was the only one he wanted to come back too. Been there for over 6 months I think and he still gets excited about going every time.

It all started with my son, I joined 3 months later and it's been almost 4 years so far. Sensei Brian is a great teacher and leader. There is just right mix of traditional Karate, self defense and sparring. Discipline and focus of all students is important but at the same time commitment and encouragement of the Sensei is a huge motivation to try harder and improve. Every class is a lots of fun plus all the extra activities: Halloween Party, Movie night and all the outings create a nice sense of fellowship and supportive environment.
