I love seeing the boats go through the canal. We live in a beautiful area. Unfortunately they have fenced part of it off now. Still a nice place to walk. Canal is drained now for the winter.

a great drawbridge where you can see ships up close as they exit lock 2 on the east side, on the west side, you can see the bridge mechanism, gears turn and large quarter-wheel thing roll when the bridge comes up, you can also see the ship close up on the west side but here is a fence in the way. also the ships take 20 minutes to pass the bridge so it may be very annoying too. 93.3 FM for bridge status.

This is very much so a bridge. It will effectively get you across the canal. Standard drawbridge style with a big ol' concrete counterweight acting as a barricade when it's open. Boats usually get through this bad boy in about 10-15 minutes, so there aren't usually huge delays.

You guys who operate this Carlton bridge put it up wayyyyy too soon for the amount of traffic you hold up and wait for the canal to pass. It’s over 800 meters away and the canal goes up.. whereas Homer Bridge has excellent service. It’s ridiculous the amount of times the bridge goes up, so inconvenient for the locals.

It's very cool to see a massive ship pass through this dock. It is crossing Highway H20, an important 3700km marine highway connecting the 5 Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway! It took this ship about 20 minutes to cross over.

Why are the bridges always up during rush hour? The authority on this needs to give their heads a shake. Especially when they decide to raise bridges one and three at the same time.
