Highland View Resort

I had a chance to rent a fishing boat with Mike as I was staying in a nearby cottage. He's been in the field for almost 36 yrs and he and his staff are excellent. I had an issue with the use of the boat, Mike's patience to explain abt the use of boats and he made sure he rode with me, tested the skills and then reassured about it all. I wil never forget that coz that built the confidence in safe boating. They have different types and sizes of boat and the price starts from $175 for a day. They have 20 cottages with almost eleven 3 bedrooms and three 4 bedrooms. The cottages are spaced well with different views to the lake. I guess they have a swimming pool too.Overall it's an experience to try.

Great waterfront get away. With pool and lots of activities for kids to do. The park dog is awesome, he'll visit for a while for hugs and scratches and makes a good nap pillow

I love this place, I grew up on the trailer side of highlandview, my grandparents had a seasonal trailer spot. Both Mike and Art are amazing people, and everytime I visit Ontario, I always pop in. Rice lake is a great fishing lake, and the views from here are great. I'm planning a trip back to Ontario in the summer of 2023 and bringing my young family with, to show them where I grew up. Will definitely be looking for weekend booking for sure.

Our family rented this resort for Thanksgiving. We had a great time! The people that run the resort are friendly and responsive, and addressed any issues we had promptly. The cottages all have heat, which was a bonus for the time of year we were there. The layout is such that children can be supervised playing at the park from the larger firepits, which is great when you have young ones with you. Lots of great views of the lake from the cottage decks. Canoes are provided free of charge with your rental, which can be used to fish or simply explore. The only downsides are that some of the cottage roofs need work, and we completely lost water pressure twice. However, in both cases, the owners were there to fix the issue promptly.

We stayed in cottage 10 called Lakeview (30 years ago this name would have matched the view...now the trees have grown and you can no longer see the lake through the trees...the price was for the cottage was reasonible, the $125 to keep my boat docked was rather high i thought...the launch is an adventure and very narrow.Pros: they picked up the garbage and recycling everyday. They offered towels new towels a few times during the week, although we did bring our own towels pillows and sheets. The pool area is nice, a little cold for me but my wife and daughter spent many hours at the pool. Lots of osprey to watching. Free wood if you stay for a weekCons: the play area for children is 5 feet from the waters edge, due to all the cedars and the little pond it is a mosquito haven! Very narrow driveway. Everytime we went to the office noone was ever there, there was a doorbell that you had to ring for serviceOther cons not of the resort...but rice lake in general...WEEDS i have never seen so many...i would honestly say 60-70% of the lake is unfishable 10 feet of water and the weeds are an inch from the too...other people fishing...if someone sees you fishing you will soon have 3,4,5 boats around you 50 yards awayWould i go back to the resort? Probably not, not because of the resort, but because of the lake it is on.

Cottage was very dirty. No one from management was considering to clean it. There were spider webs everywhere in Cottage. There were two showers and out of that one shower was not working throughout our stay. The hot water was stinking like gutter. The smell was unbearable. Would never go again. The staff didn't care about customers getting upset.

Had a great Thanksgiving weekend. Rented out several cottages, and had a great time. The cottages and grounds are extremely clean, warm, and inviting. I will be coming back! And bringing my family, for many years to come! Owners were very friendly and easy to get along with, and my kids were able to catch some fish right off the dock.

Relaxing getaway with the family. The cottages are situated on a beautifully landscaped property. Some cottages are lined along the lake. The view is very nice from there but the lake itself is full of seaweed, marshes, and lilly pads. I don't recommend it at all for swimming but it was an absolute joy to get in a pontoon and fish for a while!The scenery is of rolling hills, lush green, and a beautiful panorama of Rice Lake. The salt water pool is clean but for some reason 75 percent of the pool is also too deep to stand in at a depth of 7.5 feet. Although we didn't use them, the sand volleyball court and single net (too high) basketball court are well maintained.The cottages themselves are very simple and quaint but seem to be in need of some TLC as they are falling apart. While we were there they were good enough. The bed, for me, was extremely uncomfortable (actually painful) and I can't wait to get into my own bed to get some sleep. Upon check in our lakeside cottage had a door that would not lock let alone close. That was a poor first impression. However, the resort owner was very quick to assign us another cottage that, although was not lakeside, still had an incredible view and was next to the pool, which we really liked. The owner was also proactive in making us feel better and seemed sincere in wanting my family to feel welcome. Thank you for your that, sir!Highland View Resort has lakeside cottages, cottages offering a view of the lake from the hillside, and spots for RVs.Overall I would highly recommend Highland View resort for those who want a retreat from the city and disconnect for a while. Although the property is not luxurious I don't think it is intended to be. Come to rest and entertain yourself on the lake, by the fire, or in the pool.

We just visited Highland View over fathers day weekend. It was a great time altogether over the Friday to Sunday afternoons. We had so much fun catching all the fish. Over the 2 days the kiddos caught over 150 fish: blue gill, crappie, perch, and largemouth bass) Our fishing consisted of getting a pontoon boat and getting out and about Sugar Island. The only pitfall to the lake was all the weeds. The lake is definitely being choked by weeds in and around highland view. The beds were warm, and there were lots of critters.... but being in the cottage life that is to be expected. One highlight was the turtle laying eggs right on the pathway by the basketball court. (It was Wild Cratts in Real life.). The swimming pool was a little cold at this point. Being it is solar heated that makes sense. The staff is super laid back and makes enjoying your time there easy peasy. If you are looking for a place to unplug, and get some fishing done, Highland View is worth a visit.
