Congee Noodle House
The subtle ways Congee House has perfected their congee makes this one of the best places in the world for congee with a surprisingly low price for the quality. The broth is well incorporated into the congee while extremely thin slices of ginger gives it a subtle zing of flavor. The texture is creamy while retaining a pleasant texture. They added roasted peanuts to my congee to give it a nutty pop!The Beef Noodle Soup is packed with a beefy flavor and the thin egg noddle are springy. It’s a strong flavor without being heavy nor too oily make it a rather light meal. I got the brisket and tendon. The brisket is beefy and the tendon is soft and delightful. The BBQ pork is soft and tender on the inside with a jerky texture on the outside, topped with a sweet soy honey sauce poured over it. You can taste the depth of flavor the Shaoxing wine brings. The meat is very clean tasting. The congee can be enjoyed well after it’s been cooled down. The rest should be rated hot and fresh. All served with hot jasmine tea.It was such a joy to eat here!

I finally had the chance to revisit the famous Congee Noodle House, a restaurant I used to frequent before it temporarily closed down during the pandemic. As soon as I stepped inside, the cashier greeted me with a warm welcome. The place was busy, so I was seated at a communal table, which, being from Hong Kong, I didn't mind at all. I decided to order my all-time favorite dish, Sliced Beef with scrambled eggs on rice, as they always excelled at preparing it. True to form, the dish arrived with an appealing presentation. While the flavors were a tad bland for my liking, a dash of soy sauce and a sprinkle of white pepper quickly transformed it into the delicious taste just as I had remembered. Also, I was pleased to discover that the parking lot had been recently revamped, boasting a fresh layer of pavement. The staff mentioned this improvement. My visit to Congee Noodle House brought back cherished memories and lived up to my expectations. From the friendly welcome to the delectable cuisine, everything contributed to a memorable dining outing. For anyone seeking authentic Hong Kong flavors and a touch of nostalgia, I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant.

Three years later and it feels, tastes, smells, and looks the same….exactly perfect for my fix of casual Cantonese congee, noodle, or fried rice. They’ve also expanded the menu to include less casual fare, but I didn’t try them. Prices have gone up, but that’s true everywhere thanks to inflation. Glad one of my favourite Canto spots have re-opened!

The Congee Noodle House is open again. The room is slightly upgraded but still very casual, but the service and food are both 5 star!

Good god I missed this place. I just ordered the beef brisket chow mein for now and it was amazing, delicious gravy, big chunks of tender brisket and crispy noodles.

Their congee and Deep Fried Silver Fish with Peppery Salt 椒鹽白飯魚 is one of the best I ever have, even better than those in Hong Kong.

Many people are happy to welcome back the Congee Noodle House as am I! The back parking lot is fixed; there are some renovations to the restaurant itself; many of the servers are new; prices have gone up; and the food is as good as I remembered. It quickly got full after we arrived at around 11 am on a weekday. (We, luckily, got parking at the back - recommended as the city has greatly increased the paid parking out on the surrounding streets.) The bbq meats had just come out, so we ordered half a duck for $25 (the increased market price now) - loved it! The other yummy dishes also came in good time, straight from the bustling kitchen. Glad that the consistency in taste, speed, service…has not been lost in the 3 years this restaurant has been closed. If you crave Hong Kong style Chinese food, the menu is extensive…do give this place a try. Btw, it’s cash or interact (debit) only and if you’re a single diner or a couple, you will likely be asked to share a table. Enjoy!

The food was very good like it was before. They have reopened for about 1 week now. The Chinese donut was brought to our table long after the bowl of congee was consumed. I'm sure the process will get better as time goes by. The prices have increased. I dont recall what the prices were before, but a plate of bbq duck and pork was about $22.

This place is an East Vancouver staple. One of the best places for cantonese staples. They've been super consistent for awhile. The food here tastes the same as it was 10 years ago. Always fresh and always good.
