Hoopy Lake Fishing and Wilderness Camp

Rustic fishing lodge located on Hoopy Lake in the heart of Bonaparte Provincial Park.A long, well maintained logging road leads to a rough logging road from which a 2km hike is required to reach the lake. From there, a short boat road takes you to the lodge. A small helicopter pad is located at the lodge as well, so if one was so inclined they could fly in rather than make the long drive and hike.The lodge is large and spacious, with a well equipped kitchen. The foundation below the floor is starting to go, resulting in a very springy floor through the dining area.There are a number of cabins for sleeping, some of which are nicer than others. Ours featured two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a sitting area. One of the bedrooms was quite run down though (some rodents had clearly been living in it for a while) so we closed off that room and pretended it didn't exist. Water to the bathroom also didn't work in our cabin until we repaired it ourselves.Fishing is excellent, with rainbow trout being caught fast and frequent. The average size is roughly two-thirds to one pound.The surrounding lakes also offer good fishing, though forest fires in the last few years have all but erased some of the trails, requiring a lot of bushwacking. Some of the boats on those lakes need some repair as well.Overall a significant investment is needed into maintenance and upkeep to make the resort more desirable to visit.
