If you're looking for a top-tier izakaya in the Baldwin/Kensington area, look no further than Yuugi. The restaurant boasts a stylish and modern yet ornate interior that is sure to impress.Though slightly on the pricey side, standout dishes include the perfectly sweet and savory Tebasaki chicken wings, the Udon Pepperoncino, Tontoro, and the delicious Yuugi Sushi. The only downside is that, in my experience, the outdoor patio has never been open. Hopefully, they'll start opening it more often during the nice weather. Overall, highly recommend Yuugi for anyone looking for a great Japanese food that also comes with great service.

Cute place on baldwin.Their food was average, nothing special or impressive. The salmon sushi’s rice was too overcooked and sticky almost like mochi. No soy sauce was given so my friend didn’t like it.Fried chicken griddle was okay but too salty. It had a bit of spicy kick. So if you don’t like spicy at all, you won’t like this. The carbonara udon literally tasted like bacon, cream and soy sauce. I’ve had many better udons. This place don’t let you order a pitcher of beer if you have less than 5 people. I guess this is to reinforce people to get individual drinks so that they could make more money. Scam.I wouldn’t recommend this place. Disappointment.

Great little spot on Baldwin street with great small bites and a unique spin on the classic Izakaya eats.We had the gyoza, chicken wings, raw salmon app and the bacon, creme udon noodles. Everything was delicious and the perfect amount to split between two of us.My drink was the sake, gin, and ginger cocktail which also paired well with the eats.Make sure to reserve ahead of time if you want to eat inside as it was quite busy.

If you’re looking for small bites, Japanese tapas and drinks then this is the spot. This cozy izakaya on Baldwin is the perfect spot to grab a drink and a couple of delicious Japanese izakaya staples. I personally enjoy that their atmosphere was much more calm and laid back compared to the other more bustling izakaya downtown toronto. The food was delicious literally no complaints and the drinks are pretty & creative. The staff is extremely friendly and overall this was a great dining experience.

A nice place to go with friends after work. We got their squid pancake which was delicious. We got their skewer set, the beef tongue and mushroom were the best, their pork and chicken skewers were okay. We also got their Kanto, I think only the egg is worth trying, everything else was average. The service was great, overall it's a good place to try it out.

Came here for lunch on a Friday and had a great time. It wasn’t too busy - the environment was calm and pleasant. The lunch menu and drinks were all fairly priced and the service was excellent. We ordered the udon and gyudon and both came with a side (egglant and broccoli) and soup. The gyudon was good, but not a ton of meat and could have been a bit saltier. The udon was also good but slightly on the sweeter side (so avoid if you’re not into that). The karaage was crispy and flavourful.Would definitely recommend this place if you’re in the area! Side note: apparently they have Japanese toilets?

Torched Salmon Pressed Sushi - Sushi so immaculate, you'd feel the desire to savour every bite as the salmon dissolves in your mouth, which is both fatty and torched to unlock its umami flavours. The slight char and smokiness add another dimension of aromatic flavours, while the smoked mushrooms and a dollop of mayo rest on top of the fish to magnify the umaminess and cut into the richness a bit by providing a subtle tang. Lastly the rice is perfectly marinated, not too sweet or sour, nor falling apart when you pick it up. which helps make each piece feel complete and you can now die happy. A must try.Ramen Poutine - Poutine? With components of ramen? A novel and unique take on a classic Canadian and Japanese dish creates this ramen poutine, with miso flavour gravy, squeaky cheese curds, and chashu all on a bed of fries. This is indeed a tempting choice for those with an adventurous palate.Mackerel Fried Rice - A comforting short grain fried rice, elevated to another level with the addition of grilled mackerel and nori, which is basically pure umami flavour sprinkled all over a smoky and fragrant rice that has absorbed all this flavour. The texture of the rice is not to be overlooked as well, because you can taste the individuality of the rice grains which are cooked to perfection so you can feel the slight chewiness of it as well.Follow @bredgyeats for more food posts!

Great spot in the Baldwin Village for date night! They have a really nice patio as well. They also have specials for different types of dishes and cocktails throughout the summer.Try their Omurice and Tonkatsu before it's gone!
