Skookumchuck Motel & RV Park

I’ve stayed here a few times now and will whenever we are here in the Kootenays.It’s a great spot! The rooms are clean, comfortable and property is well kept and relaxing. Cindy and Kelly are very kind people. We really recommend staying here, you’ll most likely stay again.

Fantastic place to stay, love the rooms. We were able to leave our trailer here while we were visiting Banff and Jasper.

Skookumchuck is just a wide spot on the side of highway 93 south of Radium and north of Kimberly. Signage is adequate. Check in was efficient and very friendly. The rules are fairly basic. This park is small but well laid out.Our site, 10, was a nose in that was just long enough for our Coach and Towed. Services (30 amp, water and sewer only) were to the left side. Distancing is fair for a rural park. Each site has a table but NO fire pit. There are a number of community fire pits in the park. The pad for our site was flat and even but where the table was situated was not. A few blocks leveled it out though. Overall the park was fairly quiet even though it is right beside the highway. There is a strategically placed sound fence installed.There is park included wifi that was fairly robust but no Cable TV and no OTA channels to be found.. Satellite might be difficult in some areas because of trees.. We did not use the washrooms or showers but we checked and found them clean as was the laundry room.The only activity near by is fishing either in the Kootenay River or nearby Premier Lake. We chose this location because it is the only one in the area that has power available. The temps were in the high 20s C (80s F) thus we wanted the use of our A/C! The Provincial Park Campground at Premier Lake does not and as well, the only access to Premier lake is via poorly maintained gravel road.There are no restaurants or stores nearby. You can find food, shopping and convenience stores about 40 Km south in Kimberly. We found this park to be a good base to use visiting the local attractions. There is a pretty creek behind the motel that is a great place to relax. We paid $40.00 per night and we feel we received fair value. We will be back if in the area again.

Clean, comfy, affordable and fantastic service. We had a great stay and would highly recommend!

All of the rooms and RV sites were booked during my stay but Cindy found me a lovely corner of the property across a little stream to set up my tent. Cindy made me feel right at home. BBQs are provided, showers are hot, coin operated laundry, and warm hospitality. The property is lovely cared for and manicured all summer. I was working night shift during the Mill shut down, Cindy and her husband went out of their way to mow lawns when we were at work; such care and consideration for all of her guests.

During busy season, we had a chance to stay for the night in the motel with our 2 young kids on our way down to the US. Great little place, very clean and a little river right behind the building. A bit of highway noise but it wasn't too bad for a night. We have a suite with a kitchen, 2 twins and a queen. We will definately stay again!

We were looking for an affordable place to stay at as we are looking to go spend 3 days for my husband’s birthday around Wasa Lake/Premier Lake as when he was a little boy his dad would bring him here and spend his birthday here and when his dad was a little boy as well his grandpa used to bring his dad here and stayed in this motel as well. Now we have a little boy my husband remembers he stayed here in this motel when they would visit Wasa Lake, the last time he stayed here was on his 16th birthday. He was amazed how clean and when they renovated the place. We liked the stream and the sound of it from the back of the building made us fell asleep. Complete kitchen stuff as well, I didn’t have to use the ones I brought. Stove and the oven made my life easier for this trip. Washroom was very clean. I like the view when you wake up in the morning from the Motel. It’s right in the middle of the places where we will going for this trip. I suggested to my family to stay here whenever they would visit in this area as it’s accessible. We will definitely will be coming back. Thank you Cindy!

Lovely little spot. Friendly and helpful staff. Mattresses were very comfortable. Room was immaculate. Highly recommend

Campground was empty so we had lots of space but if it was full it would be very tight as sites Are small and close together. Full hookups, good prices, laundry on site, camp hosts were helpful and very nice. Very well maintained. Nice ground area and grassy! This is directly off highway but decently quiet for being in that location

The lady at the front desk (sorry, I forgot her name) was an absolute gem. We just showed up hoping for a room due to our other reservation at a different place double booked us on the long weekend and cancelled our booking. We were just going to sleep in our vehicle. But we came upon this Motel and stopped in. The gal here at the Skookumchuck Motel was so wonderful. She set us up in a great room and her staff were so helpful. I never felt so relieved after a stressful day. We will definitely return and recommend this place to stay. The rooms were nice and clean. We had a fire out back beside a beautiful creek. 5 stars for sure.
