I went to Nola for the first time with my girlfriend last night for our anniversary. The waitress advised us it was a sharing style restaurant and recommended ordering 4 dishes for 2 people.I am someone with a bigger appetite, so if youre like me, I would advise having a bigger lunch earlier in the day if youre going for dinner. The portions are on the smaller side, so unless you plan on ordering quite a few dishes, dont expect to feel stuffed at the end. I felt content at the end with 4 dishes, but definitely couldve eaten more. However my girlfriend was full after the 4.The food itself was all very good. We started off with the beef tartar, which didnt blow my mind or anything, but it was a nice tartar with a good dill flavour. The wonton crisps were very nice. The gunpowder carrots were delicious. It had very good sauces, and the candied pumpkin seeds were my favourite part. Our next dish was the gnocchi. We both loved these as well, and it was one of the heavier dishes. The scallops were our last dish, and this was probably our favourite. It had an excellent sauce, and perfect amount of spice. The cabbage was also great. For dessert we finished off with the chocolatier, which was also great. The espresso ice cream was delicious. My only complaint would be that the scallops dish only comes with 3 scallops. Upon ordering, the waitress informed us it would be 8$ for an additional scallop. I feel that since they are encouraging it to be shareable, it should have been 4 scallops to start with. This pretty much forces you to buy into their upcharge or else split an odd number. Its not a big cost, to me its just the concept of it.My girlfriend said the carrots could have been a little hotter, but she was happy with everything else.Overall a good experience and good personable staff, they are friendly and explain each dish as its brought out. Our bill prior to tip (we also got one drink each) came to 132$ so expect to spend 150$+ for two people.Note: for pictures, my girlfriend got excited and mixed the gnocchi prior to pic, it was presented more elegantly :)

Awesome experience at Nola. Amazing food, impeccable service, fun relaxing vibes. It's was one of the best meals I've had in a long time!! 5 plates plus dessert was the perfect amount for 2 people. The dishes are creative and fabulous.

Everything tasted amazing at Nola, my wife and I ordered 5 main entrees. 2 desserts and 2 drinks. Each staff was friendly bringing the dish in and explained what ingredients was in there as well as how to eat it. Loved the concept of sharing dishes, it definitely got me to engage with my wife more. It’s the perfect place for a date night, would definitely come back again.

I kept hearing great things about Nola and the restaurant held up to its hype. Tried the sourdough, loaded baked potato gnocchi, Japanese karaage chicken, scallops and lo bak go, and braised lamb with chocolatier and bananas foster for dessert. The dishes had their own unique flavor profile with different cuisine fusions. The bananas fosters was delicious and was definitely the best we've ever had. The scallop dish could have used more scallops for the price as the scallops were not that big. Other than that, great food and service!

I heard about Nola from friends in the city who told me it is a great experience. I had to give it a try and see for myself. We had four of the share plates, a specialty cocktail, and a dessert. The important question first: was it worth it? Yes.A few highlights: the service was excellent. Even though the place was full, our server came by regularly and checked in. We had plenty of water and the food came out regularly. The cocktail was delicious. The food was brilliant. Each of the dishes from the gunpowder carrots to braised lamb were enjoyable and fit together. I am not a big fan of lamb overall, but their braised lamb was moist, fall apart, and great. Four dishes were a good number for the two of us. Three dishes would work for two if both are light eaters and five if you're hungry. The overall experience was so enjoyable that I forgot to take pictures of all the dishes. The dessert was... a surprise. While it first appeared as a small portion, the dessert packed a tasty punch. Everything about it was good.

I went to Nola's as part of a party of 4. We ordered a variety of dishes and shared, as was recommended by our waitress. First, our waitress was very nice, knowledgeable, and friendly for the first little bit but her attitude gradually declined throughout the night until she became abrupt and a bit inattentive by the end of our dinner. No idea why.Now the food. I went there hungry, don't do that! The food was great, and everything tasted fine, BUT 4 little sample sized offerings did little to appease one's hunger. Especially 4 grown adults with appetites.Considering what we paid and what we got, I won't be back. The first thing I did when I got home was to make myself something to eat...

Booked the chefs table and was not disappointed. Dishes are family style - bring your appetite! Wanted to try everything, but hubby and I ordered 5 dishes to share and had more than enough food.Cocktails were top shelf and priced accordingly. It is not a “cheap” place - but we felt that EVERY PENNY was 100000% WORTH IT. High quality - amazing service. 10/10.Can hardly wait to come back. The beet and beef tartare was my favourite - will pop back in one day just for that and a craft cocktail!!

We dined at Nola the other night for my husbands birthday. The restaurant is on the tinier side, and tables are quite close to each other so you’re often hearing the conversations around you.The service was excellent, everyone is very friendly and kind. And food came out in a timely manner. The food is very delicious and you can tell a ton of detail and thought has been put into it. We had the sourdough, gunpowder carrots, scallops, gnocci, and steak. Our favourite dishes were the sourdough, carrots and gnocci. We found the most expensive dishes (scallops and steak) weren’t what we were expecting. We were not a fan of the flavours and felt you didn’t get a good portion of the protein compared to the accompanying veggies in the dishes. All in all we would definitely go back and try new dishes. This place is a must to try. Emily Butcher is doing a fabulous job at creating some really yummy dishes and putting winnipeg on the map for great restaurants! Thanks Nola!

One of the best restaurants I have been in Canada. The dishes are really creative and the fusion works surprisingly well. We are very amazed by how different ingredients pairs so well together - prawn tortellini with a fish sauce based purée and the corn fritter with nori. The sourdough was also really good. In comparison the karaage fried chicken was just okay, still tasted good but didn’t do the “wow” like the other dishes. The dessert was exceptional - never thought parsnip would have worked so well in a cheesecake. Our server was very friendly and explained all the dishes to us as they arrived. The only thing we noticed is that it was a little hard to get a hold of our server, probably because the night was very busy. All in all we were very happy with our experience at Nola and would come back to Winnipeg just for the food here.
