In memory of the failed 1956 Hungarian uprising against the invading USSR.The Hungarian Freedom Fighters are commemorated as well as the 37 500 refugees who were welcomed in Canada between 1956 and 1957.It is worth noting that there are other such memorials across the country and that Simon Fraser University holds over 400 hours of digitized recordings. The Hungarian Memorial History Project" focuses on personal testimonies by these new immigrants.This bronze sculpture was erected in 1956 in Toronto's Budapest Park. "Freedom for Hungary. Freedom for all."Victor Tolgyesy also made Ottawa's Bywards Market beloved storybook sculpture "McClintock's Dream"

An interesting monument to the Hungarian who opposed the Soviet invasion and those who fled the oncoming army.

The most inspiring monument I've seen to date in this fine city, and possibly all of Canada. Angular shapes are an excellent reminder of how sharp the pain governments inflict on innocent people can be! If only the left-leaning political extremists of my generation knew how much damage well-meaning communists did over the past century...

Walking the beaches today and first time i have seen Freedom For Hungary Monument. Very nice and it gets so much attention. People lighting candles and praying and others enjoying the sights. Great part of Toronto's waterfront to enjoy the boardwalk and beaches. Perfect for families and kids.
