Upnor Castle | English Heritage | Set in tranquil grounds adjoining a riverside village, this rare example of an Elizabethan artillery fort was begun in 1559 and redeveloped in 1599-1601, to protect warships at Chatham dockyards.

Upnor Castle
Great little visit for some history on a sunny day!! Reasonably priced and lots to see, average of 2 hours spent on the grounds.

Interesting castle worth a couple of hours exploring! Lovely location with nice views. Half of the castle rooms were empty maybe lacking some more displays / mannequins to really bring it to life. Staff very welcoming and pleasant!

This is a fantastic little castle that is worth a detour to visit. The interesting history of the castle is clearly displayed on information boards as you explore the site.

Beautifully situated castle on the banks of the river. Near a charming little village. I fell in love with this place. You can spend a great Sunday.

My 5 year old twin boys loved this place. You can feel the history in Upnor Cadtle. Great exhibits and grounds.

Upnor Castle
Lovely day out with friends. Upnor High St is just gorgeous and you will find the castle at the bottom of the road on the left, right by the river. The castle itself isn't huge, but really nice to explore. After visiting the castle we enjoyed a picnic in the castle grounds. Would definitely come back.

Upnor Castle
Small but well preserved castle on the banks of the River Medway. Some of the rooms felt like they could have had some info boards but otherwise good.Found the staff to be rather brash which is unlike other English Heritage sites visited who have all been very welcoming and polite.
