Steckle Woods

I like this forest as a place to walk my dog but there are a few downsides here. There is a lot of litter (especially by the enterance/parking areas) there are a lot of really bad potholes in the parking lot area so if you have a low car I wouldn't drive here. It's also not a great place if you want to feel like you're away from the city because its next to a busy intersection so you don't get the quietness or fresh air you'd expect from a nature walk. Lastly, it's very hilly. I love the hills because they're fun to run up and down with my dog but if you're not very fit this forest will be a challenge.

If you go out to the Eastern perimeter of the woods early in the morning you’ll have one of the best views of the sunrise. My family has been going for walks here all my life; the trail’s are the perfect length for a walk and talk. At the same time, they’re a little too short for jogging/running. You feel like you’re just getting started & then you’re back at your car.

Hot tip: bring/wear bug spray! (Glad I packed some, wasn't expecting to even use it for a morning walk.)Great wooded spot in the city, with decent paths. Not a lot of parking that I noticed but there could be residential street parking nearby and walk over (I walked/used public transit).

This was a fantastic place to let my kids run loose! The trails are well-traveled and easy to follow. We loved the hills and looking at some really big trees! There weren't many mosquitoes either as it isn't very swampy or marshy in the woods.

Very nice area. Mature trees and lots of Natural decay. Very calming. Lots of cool paths to explore! Doggo gives two paws up!

This park has great trails, and it's pretty quiet considering how close it is to major roads. There are several easily accessible parking lots that make this an easy place to stop for a short nature walk. Not a lot of older growth trees.

Nice little forest with clear trails and plenty of natural regeneration. Great to hear birds and watch critters scurry along the forest floor. This place is especially pretty in the fall but provides great cool shade in the summer. There are even places near by to grab a drink or coffee for the walk. Enjoy.
