As a mature newcomer to this club, I have been welcomed and included. The trial of two classes makes signing up risk free. Of particular interest is the fact that the most senior Senseis teach the junior class to get everyone on the right path. Karate is fun and everyone progresses at their rate. This is a helpful and friendly group of people with a good dose of discipline and attention to detail- fun for all!

I cannot say enough about the Dal Karate Club! The leadership is top-notch - we are fortunate enough to have TWO Senseis (Tony & Danny Tam, both 7th Dan) and many other high-level black belt instructors who volunteer their time to make us all better. And our fellow karatekas are amazing. Awesome sense of community and encouragement. Mix of serious practice and humour! My family and I have been part of this club for almost 5 years now, and my husband and I were humbled to earn our first degree Black Belt (Shodan) in October 2015.Of course, you will learn about self-defense, you will challenge and improve your fitness, but it is so much more. It stretches you mentally, helps with clarity and focus, and refines our character. Great for your BODY, MIND and SPIRIT!

I have been practicing Karate in Germany, Japan, England and Canada, and this club is as good as it gets. We practice Karate-do, an art to seek perfection of character, and we are so lucky to have such true high-level instructors who lead by example. So it is no surprize that we have a large and awsame membership who respect each other and welcomes everyone with a true heart. This is not a fighting school for wannabe ninjas or showoffs, but where we all work hard to try our best to find the perfect form. I highly recommend this club if you are interested in true karate-do.

I joined this club in 2006 on the suggestion of a classmate. What started as a way to get fit and embrace my interest in Asian culture and martial arts has turned into a way of life. You don't just learn physical techniques, but life principles and practices that reach outside the club. The folks in the club are amazing and many have become close, life-long friends. And the price, especially as a student, cannot be beat in the city.

I joined 6 years ago to train with my son who was in junior high. He has gone off to college but I continue to train. Senseis Tony and Danny are among the best instructors in Canada along with the many senior students. It is a great not-for-profit community. The rates are incredibly good.

I joined the club in the Spring of 2011, starting in the Saturday morning Parent-Child class along with my wife and kid. 4 1/2 years later I and my wife are still with the club and are now black belts.I originally joined for the fitness aspects of the training, but the nature of the training has opened my mind for better mental focus, clarity and a whole new perspective on interacting with people. The club instructors, every one of them a volunteer, are fantastic and very approachable. That doesn't mean they go easy on you - they encourage you to push yourself that little bit further each time, and its the challenge of that interaction that keeps me coming back.I highly recommend you give the club a try. You won't regret it.

I am pleased to write this endorsement letter for Halifax International Shotokan Karate Federation located at King's College in Halifax, also known as the Dal Karate Club. I highly recommend this club to anyone looking to prioritize their health and fitness, regardless of age or skill level. At the age of 70, I have personally experienced the benefits of practicing martial arts and leading a healthy lifestyle. Looking and feeling good go hand in hand, and I have achieved an impressive level of fitness and expertise in martial arts through the teachings of Halifax International Shotokan Karate Federation.I strongly encourage anyone looking to improve their quality of life, especially in their golden years, to attend one of the free classes offered by the club. Juniors, beginners, intermediate, and even Silver Cranes are all welcomed with open arms.Taking care of oneself physically and mentally is critical to overall well-being, and the instructors at Halifax International Shotokan Karate Federation have a wealth of knowledge and experience to help individuals achieve their health and fitness goals. In summary, I highly recommend Halifax International Shotokan Karate Federation to anyone seeking to improve their health, fitness, and martial arts skills. I have been training with this organization for over two years. The instructions are great, physicially and mentally. Classes are year-round, which is great for people who are looking for non-stop training. And the rates are excellent considering the great instructions and the facility they provide.Definitely recommend this non-profit organization to all levels, absolute beginners who want to try something new (they have a beginner class) or karatekas who are looking forward to sharpen their skills further.

This is an amazing club with an incredible sense of community. I joined ten years ago in the parent-youth program and never looked back. Karate offers something to all ages and all skill levels. The instructors are respectful and genuinely want to see you improve. I highly recommend signing up with your children.

teaching was pretty good, but most instructors are not friendly and unapproachable. Karate here is regarded more like a religion than a sport. As an easy going person, it was not the most comfortable environment. No one really taught sparring, the focus was strictly on the basics.
