Helen charged my husband $80 to hem a very simple dress. She absolutely took advantage of him not knowing how much a dress costs to be hemmed. Cash only, too. Would not recommend.

I recently went to Helen to have some bench cushions resized.Originally I had gone to someone else in town. That was a disaster. First he insulted the quality of my cushions; then he said it would cost at least $40/cushion without adding a zipper.When I went to Helen, the first thing she did was tell me my cushions were cute (rather than insult me), next she offered to alter them for $20/cushion AND she added zippers AT NO EXTRA COST!!!!My cushions were done in less than two weeks. Thank you so much Helen!

I dropped off a sweater to have the sleeves lengthened (cuffs added) and the neck scarf modified. Helen told me it would take a week. Two weeks later I went back to find out the status of my sweater, only to find out that she hadn’t started it, but she said she would have it done later that same day. When I returned to pick it up, she never apologized for the delay, but gave me a $10 discount so I left happy. When I got home I realized she only did part of what I had asked her to do! She fixed the neck but didn’t lengthen the sleeves (which I’m realizing is why she charged me less). My receipt also had no mention of the sleeve cuffs, so she clearly forgot what I had originally asked her to do. My mistake for leaving without checking her work, but after two weeks without my sweater I really wasn’t interested in having her redo it anyways. I won’t be returning.

Amazing work! She did a great job on my dress! I got the dress cut shorter as it was an old bridesmaid dress and she took in the slit that ran up the leg. Very great pricing compared to other places I looked at in Ottawa. Will be going again if I ever need anything done, I highly recommend Helen's Sewing Room.

Brought in a jacket that needed some minor tailoring. Helen was fast and accurate with the work. I'll be coming back next time I need work done.

I have a knee brace that had a splitting seam, and they were willing to try to fix it, even though I don’t think that semi-medical devices are there specialty. They were able to get it almost fully done, but my brace didn’t quite fit on the machine because it’s made to fit a leg, it’s not typical clothing. So they recommended three places in reasonable driving distance that might have a machine that would fit it. That is pretty cool. Honest, helpful, and committed to getting a good result.

I had a wonderful experience at this business. I can only say good things about the proprietor and her work.

I brought in my coat on the 8th of January to get the zipper replaced. She told me that it wouldn't take longer then a week. I come back on the 18th of January to see the status of my coat, she still hasn't begun the work and told me that she is waiting for her daughter to come help her - apparently the daughter takes the zippers out and she puts the new one in. I come back on the 31st of January and still nothing has been started on my coat!!!I ended up taking it and she came up with excuses saying that her daughter is coming tomorrow to help her.We've had -30 weather this January. And I am wearing a coat that I had in 2007!!

I had a pink wedding guest dress altered and Helen did an amazing job! The chiffon and underlayer had to be shortened and the shoulders brought up an inch and a half. It's perfect! Don't hesitate to give your business to Helen's Sewing Room. Photos are before and after.
