The annual Highland Games and Scottish Festival is an excellent one day family friendly event on the riverfront area in downtown Moncton, New Brunswick. Events include; bagpiping & drum bands, sheep herding dogs, highland dance, heavy events (caber toss, stone putt, weights for distance, hammers, toss, weight for height). Other activities include: horse drawn carriage rides, fly casting, yarn spinning, archery, food trucks / vendors, beer tent, live Celtic music, workshops, cultural exhibitions. Whether you visit for an hour or for the entire day, there is something for people of all ages to learn / enjoy.

My family was invited to perform a traditional Mi'kmaq dance. It was my first time at the Highland Games. I was reminded of our own powwows. We both gather to celebrate music, food, and dance. It seemed very well organized.
