I finally get to try this course. All the review is true. This course is Beauty and the Beast. The front nine is in a mature setting with lots mature trees. The back nine has beautiful scenery of the rock ages, but very difficult course to manage and you will need lots of balls. I highly recommend this course.

The back 9 is all about the experience. You have to be a damn good golfer to enjoy the game aspect. Get ready to loose a dozen balls. Front 9 is the opposite, beautiful and relaxing play.

Absolute must play for anyone who swings clubs even once a year. Front nine is picturesque but a fairly basic layout. Greens were fantastic but fairways were a touch on the long side. I would say the greens rolled true and were quick but not lightning fast, still faster than most greens I've played on in Alberta. The Back nine is where the fun truly starts. You literally play on the tops of the HooDoo's, it's very challenging target golf with long traverses between holes and shots. The greens and fairways (what little fairway was to be had) were still in great shape up there. Truly a golf experience like no other.Pro tip: do not play the back nine from the blues, it is target golf, and will take away from your enjoyment and your golf ball supply.

Back 9 super hard but amazing views and super wicked landscape. Its out of this world type landscape id highly recommend it. Get a full 18 like the back 9 and it'd blow everyone's mind. Loved the friendly, proactively helpful staff. Riley's course tips were a great help.

A totally unbelievable back nine hole experience in the drumheller “hills”. The back nine holes, which are located across the highway from the front nine flat and mediocre holes, are some of the coolest i have EVER played!!

I have played golf all over North American, and Dinosaur Trail is one of a kind. The views in the back 9 are amazing, however the course is average. Greens, fairways and tee boxes are what you would find in a local Muni. Bare spots all over, and the greens had large sections of dirt and dead grass. Carts are really beat up, and the cart paths are rutted and brutal. The back nine, is extremely hard to play as the wind is ever present, and most shots are blind into very small landing areas. There was no water or drink card to be found, making for at tough couple of hours in near 30⁰ C weather. Come for the view, but playing the course was Meh.

The front nine is the typical tree lined golf course. All these holes build to the wonder that is the back nine. The back nine is so unique, you’re playing atop the Hoodoo formations which make you feel like you’re on Mars. The course is fantastic and is a definite must play.

UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 2022.The course, with regards to playability and turf management is still really good. However the carts and the trail path are in dire need of replacement (for the carts) and a serious commitment to repairing the cart path for the back nine. The view on the back is still incredible, but the sketchy cart path is somewhat of a distraction, especially where potholes take up big chunks of the trail. My overall impression of the golf course has now gone down. For course that is a bit of a drive from where I live, the value for money has slipped. Outside of how much I like the layout and the views, I would now rate this as a two and a half stars.See additional photos.Nice typical opening front nine, which then doesn't prepare you for the target golf that is required for most of the holes on the back nine.

I was visiting from out of town with my wife. I booked for 6pm on a Thursday. Thursdays are men's nights but the pro shop was able to get me on the back nine. No problem taking my wife along for moral support! She does not golf. The back nine was what I was there for. It did not dissapoint!. Very very tough nine holes. Some extremely narrow and long par 5's. The par 4's were also narrow with no room for error for the 1st shot. The par 3's were just as tight with small greens. The cart paths have been repaired in places which is good because the paths are rough. The greens were good for a desert course. The views though are spectacular!!! One of the most difficult to play but also the most beautiful and intriguing courses to play.I loved it. I did not play the front 9 due to the men's night.PS. Take lots of extra balls. If you miss yours shots then the ball is gone. The rough consists of big dropoffs, deep ravines, giant coulies, and a few nasty water hazards. This course will challenge, frustrate, and amaze you.The best part is, it's only $25 after 6pm and that includes a cart!

I like to think of the course as Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde because the the front vs back 9 are so different. Front 9 is a nice casual walk in the park that still presents some challenges with tree lined fairways and some small water hazards. I'd use the front 9 to gauge how many fairways you hit because you'll need to know if you're bringing a slice into the back 9. The back 9 is completely target golf and there's little room for miss hits. Although it's a challenge, the views are incredible and it's so fun to play. It's also good to play the back 9 a couple times or if you're lucky, with some members, to help with the blind approach shots. It gets pretty windy up top the hoodoos so take that into consideration too.
