The food was amazing! We really enjoyed both donburi dishes. It was a bit pricey so I won’t come back often, but maybe as a treat once in a while. The restaurant itself was a bit run down and cramped, we were really close to the couple next to us which made the dining experience a bit worse. It’s worth it for the food though!

I really don’t like leaving bad reviews like this but service was atrocious. I had to wait an hour + for my meal and unfortunately it never arrived. We needed to go promptly so I told the server to just cancel my order. He replied that unfortunately I had to pay for it or wait another 5-10 min. They ended up packaging quickly, forgetting some of the items that were supposed to be included in the meal. I attached a picture of my restaurant experience, which is me reheating the food at home the next day. Would not recommend, would not go back. Shame!

It was delicious, and the service was really nice. Most of the people there ordered the ramen, but I think their tendon was as good as their ramen. Should give it try if you get a chance

So I feel the clam broth ramen is very good and unique here. In terms of Tendon, what it should separate from any generic shrimp or other tempuras is this should be a fresh batter and made to order. The tendon was okay, definitely hot and fried fresh but maybe it was at a higher temperature at the end of the night but it was not as delicate as the great place I’ve experienced elsewhere. The rice is cooked well, the sauce was a bit too sweet or over powering. It’s a good meal and not too many places do tendon well in Toronto.

The unagi don and ramen is delicious. Takoyaki was sub-par. They also have happy hour. Tables were placed a little too close together.

The only restaurant specializing in Tempura is here! The tempura is made upon order because you need to serve it freshly fried for the best texture. Expect some wait but it’s worth it. Definitely get the unagi (eel) tempura because it’s probably the best seafood deep fried besides the shrimp!I got the udon set that came with chef’s pick of tempura with a side of salad etc. It was a lot of food actually and I was pretty satisfied. It also came with 3 different types of salt and the only one that I could differentiate was the green one which I think is matcha salt. I wasn’t really sure what to do with it to be honest.Akimitsu shares space with Konjiki so you just get a separate menu for tempura! If you love tempura, definitely try it! You can order set meals or just tempura only. It did seem to get crowded so if you want to avoid lineups, dine during non rush hours!

I was looking for an authentic tendon (tempura rice bowl) and this place is definitely it! Surprised there are not more restaurants that offer this. Tendons feel and taste complete different & better than a regular tempura meal set you would find at other Japanese restaurants. The tempura was fantasic. Juicy pieces of shrimp, unagi (eel), salmon, roe, and a variety of vegetables to make me feel someone healthy. The sauce was really delicious. Even the sauced up tempura kept the amazing crunch.Tempura onsen egg is a must add. It is pricey for a deep fried egg but it elevates the when experience to a new level! If you like tempura, I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I love tempura and udon so this is one of my fave places. You know it's fresh because we had to wait an hour for our tempura to arrive (we were notified right when we were about to order, so we weren't gonna get up and leave, but fyi you will have to wait quite a while for your food if you get tempura items, especially on a busy night). I think the dual donburi has the best value because you get both gyudon and tempura for under $20. However I wish they gave you tempura dipping sauce with it, bc it was a bit dry. I ended up just dipping the tempura in my miso soup lol. The food is also pretty filling since it's all fried/rice/noodles, and I didn't even finish my donburi, so I think this place is really worth it. Also I highly recommend the deep fried mushroom appetizer. It didn't come out as we expected (they were like razor thin chips) and maybe we were just starving but it was so good. It's one of those things where you start eating it and keep eating it and don't realize you've finished it until your chopsticks hit the empty plate lol

An amazing hidden hole in the wall that takes us back to Tokyo, Japan! With strengths in Ramen by Yamamoto and Tempura and Tendon (Tempura Donburi) restaurant by Akimitsu, the menu covers the best of both worlds. The owners have several awards and generation of mastered arts in traditional Tendon and even Michelin guide Tokyo One Star for Ramen (2019-2021). Food was amazing and really awesome! We were wandering to another restaurant that was overly full and happened to stumble upon this restaurant. It's stairs with banners noted the awards and achievements, the faint glow of the restaurant lights with diners and lit up name of their restaurant, you can easily miss this location. Entering through the door, there's an Asakusa Station sign indicating where the main entrance is on your right. Main entrance has a waiting area, staff comes up to greet you and ask for ID and proof of vaccination. The lack of windows inside makes it feel like you've teleported back to Tokyo. The hanging noren (Japanese fabric dividers), wooden panel walls, the thin corridor space along with branches of trees, there's some thought that went into the restaurant that gives a nod to the Japanese ambiance. We tried a bit of everything since they're known for their ramen and tempura (no tendon today). We ordered the Original Shoyu Tonkatsu Ramen (with extra chashu). Note, they don't char their chashu but sous-vides it for a different texture which is different from other ramen places in Toronto. The pork bone soup base was very rich, not too thick compared to other ramen places. The thin noodles were just right and not overly soft or hard, the way it would be in other Tokyo ramen stores we've been to.We also ordered the Vegetable Tempura Udon Set which comes with 7 vegetables (in Akimitsu original tempura batter on asparagus, shishito pepper, king oyster mushroom?, brown mushroom, pumpkin, yam and broccoli) , udon, tsukemono (Japanese pickles), 3 kinds of salt and tempura sauce. Hands down, the yam and pumpkin tempura were the best we've tried in Toronto. The batter was really light and didn't taste oily.Lastly, we tried their delicious chicken karaage which came with 5 pieces of fried chicken with Japanese mustard (karashi) mayo on the side. For all 3 ordered items, we paid a total of $50 for our food and was very stuffed afterwards!Overall, during our whole experience, the staff were very responsive and very prompt with checking on water and our experience. Needless to say, we had a great time and would come back again!Edit: back here again a month later to share the love of food to friends.. food still delicious - tried more items on the menu like the Wagyu Ramen, Deep Fried King Mushroom, and Asakusa Tempura Udon Set. All were great options! The Wagyu Ramen was a great choice and came with a clear beef and chicken soup base with really delicious Wagyu beef. The Deep Fried King Mushroom was took us by surprise as the thinly sliced mushroom felt like chips. The Asakusa Tempura Udon set came with 2 prawn tempura, 3 seafood (salmon, unagi and herring roe), 2 vegetable (pumpkin, shishito pepper, yam) which were all great tempura options to cover all flavours!

I came with two others for lunch one Saturday and dined in. It’s a nice, quaint space. We were starving and put our order in with the waiter at 12:10 pm and after an hour long wait, two out of three orders came out at 1:10 pm after we had inquires for our food. We had a show to catch at 1:30 pm and did not expect the food to take so long to prepare. At 1:15 pm the waiter came by and apologized to our last friend waiting for her order because they said her order would need a lot longer to prepare, so she cancelled her order because we couldn’t wait any longer.Obviously fulfilling take out orders is important for a restaurant business but so is fulfilling orders for your in-house patrons. As the food came out so late, we had a good 5-10 minutes to scarf down the food before needing to hail an uber to catch our show. They ended up giving us 20% discount on the whole order, as an apology. We appreciate their apology but really just hope improvements are made with the food service time.Attached is a photo of my order: Asakusa Tendon.
