MEC Victoria

I love these MEC stores, never the best service-always seems like they need triple the staff-but so much cool stuff that just makes me want to get out there! Prices are too high, but that comes with the target population. Overall I wish that there were more of these stores and that the prices were a little more reasonable.

Went there to buy a couple of bike tyres after standing around for more than 10 minutes while two employees that weren't doing anything ignored us. We went to Broad street cycles and received excellent service. Mec has slid so far from what they used to be

My experience with the bike shop was extremely positive.They went out of their way to explain all my options to me in detail and never tried to upsell meVery knowledgeable, kind and professional.

This place used to be AMAZING. Now it’s just greedy for money selling lower quality stuff. I know a group of people who worked there for many years, they all left because it became chaos.Today I purchased a water bottle which I used to buy on regular bases, they blacked out original price $22.95 and charged me $24.95.Taking steps to be more greedy and less fun - it’s working! I’m gonna avoid shopping there from now on. Sad.

Rock solid guarantee used to be good, but now it's more like up to the discretion of the manager".Customer service is bad and it's just a regular business instead of a co-op. Very disappointed with my most recent visit and definitely won't be back."

I have been trying to buy climbing shoes from this location for several weeks now. Every time I go, I end up spending at least 30 minutes and in that time I am lucky if their staff member is able to bring me 2 pairs of shoes to try on because they are so disorganized. (It takes 3-5 minutes to find a single pair of shoes in the back, I timed them.) I end up leaving without buying anything because I am so frustrated and have run out of time. MEC used to be good. I don't think I will shop there anymore.

Good prices and knowledgeable staff. They have name brand stuff as well as private (MEC) brand. Be sure to check the reviews before buying MEC brand stuff because it's often a hit or miss on quality, but they have a forgiving return policy. But some MEC brand stuff is way better value for price than name brand items. Their return policy is great.

I had just received the most thorough education of hiking footwear when I came into MEC Victoria. I already have a fair bit of experience with hiking and have been researching hiking boots for months to find a new replacement. Jim, the employee who served me, was SO knowledgeable and had so much more to share. His patience (while juggling with many customers at once due short-staffing) and expertise helped me find the EXACT boot size I needed. I never had an employee take such time and care to make sure I found exactly what I needed (he even encouraged to walk in the boots around the store for 10 minutes to get a better idea of fit!!). I can't wait to try out my new boots and can say with confidence that Jim helped me find the perfect fit after searching online for so long. Many many thanks to Jim and the team at MEC!!

MEC has changed. They don't back their gear like they used to. Today I brought in an item that clearly broke after minimal use, and I was met with rude comments and was told to talk to the company directly. I.e. I was overtly encouraged to shop online instead of through them. Guess I will then.
