Home - Lakefield Animal Welfare Society Lakefield Animal Welfare Society | The Lakefield Animal Welfare Society, founded in 1993, is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, abandoned, and injured animals in our community and finding adoptive homes for them. With a handful of paid staff, we rely on our caring and experienced volunteers every day. We are a “no-kill” shelter and work very hard at finding homes for even the most difficult to place animals. We do not believe that euthanasia is an acceptable method of population control but that spay and neuter is the only humane way to combat the problem. LAWS is run strictly on donations, memberships and adoption fees. We do not benefit from any outside government or private sector funding.

Staff was wonderful and patient with me as I picked out my perfect companion. Definitely a great place if you are looking to adopt a pet! I now have the perfect companion. Claire settled in and was comfortable in her new home almost immediately. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

The staff are warm and friendly. My wife and I foster newborn kittens for them now.(my wife does the hard work I get to play with them). We had found 5 babies and I had one at my work that I tamed and they helped us find good homes for them. It's very hard to find good homes for cats. They are doing a great job and don't let irresponsible people adopt them. Their process helps ensure good homes

What a wonderful experience we had adopting our kitten. Dee went above and beyond to help us. She took the time to explain everything very well and take us through our next steps. You can tell how much love she has for the shelter and all the animals there.

Adopted a kitten back in January. The shelter staff got back to me right away after I inquired about the adoption & set up an appointment to come in & view the kittens in the kitten room. All of the kittens seemed happy, healthy and very well socialized.I was able to pick a kitten & take her home with me that day. She has since fit right in with our family & has been a great addition to our household.

The friendliest staff I have ever met!! I adopted a kitten in February, she was in a foster home so I set up a meeting with her at the shelter and brought her home day of, the process was quick and easy and they were very helpful as I am a first time cat owner! Setting up appointments has been super easy and if I ever get another cat I hope it is from this place:)

My family has visited many times in the past few years, and the staff especially know my daughter. As such, we sought a recommendation due to the lockdown protocols. Great thanks as Lucky has quickly become Barnabas Rumble and has settled in nicely.
