A beautiful spot in the heart of historic downtown Hallowell. Outdoor seating featuring live musicians on the patio. Our first time trying chicken of the woods (wild Maine mushroom), one of tonight's specials served with scallops over linguine. Our server Jane was a gracious host. We will be back! Highly recommend for an evening out.

We liked our meals, although if you have a seafood dish with garlic, be prepared for quite a bit of it. The chowder was superb. They have quite a varied menu, and the salads were good. One of us got a bean and rice burrito, which was also flavorful. The waitress was very helpful and friendly. As it was a Friday night, the place got pretty busy, and the noise level increased accordingly, so if you don't like a lively" atmosphere

It was an amazing experience. The waiter was incredibly quick to notice when you needed something, and found a way to ensure you got what you needed as soon as humanly possible. It was busy, but he still found time to entertain our kids on occasion. The food was wonderful, I don't think I've ever had better scallops anywhere.

I'll start with our waitress. She was snarky, available to help with everything And just about one of the most welcoming people you'll ever meet. The place was packed and for good reason. Live music and really good food! I am so totally going back to that place as soon as I can.

Great food, cool space. We were surprised to see four entrees with vegan options.

Such an amazing place with excellent food. Bar both upstairs and downstairs so once you're sat you won't wait long for drinks and the food service is quick too. Excellent local art on the walls for sale too which is sweet and still managed to make a cohesive elegant yet hip atmosphere.Reservations are STRONGLY recommend but the food is to die for! Especially the brunch!

Small, local venue with fresh locally sourced food. Friendly service. Can be very loud. Drinks are good, food is flavorful with lots of rotating specials.

I ordered a chocolate cheesecake and a chocolate roulade for my birthday, and both are fabulous! The cheesecake is honestly the best I’ve ever had. Thank you for making my birthday awesome!

Please, please stop here! I don't know what it was -- happenstance, fate, or the force of God -- but by goodness are we lucky we stopped here. Life started on in cabin that morning, groggy after a wonderful, wonderful wedding up north of here near baxter. We said our goodbyes, both to the bride and to the cabins and to the lake there and, how could I forget, their doggo, rushie. Love them all. So then it was a stop for coffee which led to what we are talking about: my partner had to pee. She's a bit adventurous, calls it jungle peeing, which I won't go into. But afterwards we walked around the town a little and found Slate's. Half of what you are paying for is just the environment, the ambiance -- so, so worth it. And the food is great! Really, my mind jumped to what it would be here, if we were to live here, and frequent Slate's. Michigan is home for me, but if I were born here, in Maine, everything might be different. Be safe, friends.

The atmosphere and service were spot on!! Our server was attentive and very friendly. The food was just meh, nothing special stood out. We started with the baked brie, it was good, then we had one crab cake, but it was mainly cornmeal there wasn't any crab in the cake at all! My flat iron steak was very chewy and tough, too much grizzle. I could only eat about half. The best thing was my toasted coconut almond bar.
