The place is nice but I don’t recommend walking around the loop. Myself and wife and daughter got covered in ticks, were only there for 15 min and had 15 on us total.

This is a well tended walk through a meadow with a few signs dedicated to the family who tended this land for generations before the Acadian exile.

Melanson Settlement National Historic Site
Nice to walk around, see the views and read about the Acadian Settlement that was here in the 1600 and 1700's. None of my ancestors lived here, as far as I know, but close enough to Port-Royal that my ancestors, Louis Hebert may have walked in this area. Quite peaceful, anyway.

Interesting bit of history but not much to see. All of the buildings no longer exist so all there is is a series of plaques describing what was here. The walk is short but pleasant. I was in the area and stopping was simple enough but I would not make a special trip to this site unless acadian history was your main draw.

So excited to find this and would love to visit. My maiden name is Hebert and all of my ancestors are Cajuns hailing from Port Royal. I am very interested in my family history as I am the last generation of 100% Acadian descent in my family. I live in Southwest Louisiana in US.

My ancestor was Melanson so coming here obviously means more to me than most. This is a quick visit site, no more than twenty minutes of gentle walking and viewing information panels in a rural setting. If you are in the area, come for a walk here.

Nice place to stop for a look (cheap to enter) and nice to walk around. Bring a picnic!
