I’m happy to say that my Mom is a resident at Villa Forum. The staff here are fantastic. A few months after my mom settled here I volunteered my time helping out where I can. I was fortunate to be offered a part-time position in the maintenance department working with a bunch of great people. Most residents have now got to know me and it brings me joy to see that I can put a smile on their face.

I have been working at Villa Forum for the past six months and it is one of the most rewarding jobs I’veever had. The management team and staff are passionate and cohesive, and in these times of uncertainty, the only certainty, is that our Residents remain our highest priority. I’m proud to be a part of this team!

I worked here through agency and staff can be so rude especially the nurse managers night shift. On my first ever shift I was doing routinely night brief changes with one of the psw who is a permanent staff here and the patient we were changing was total care and not very responsive, so as we were changing I still like to reassure and talk to patient and make them feel comfortable but the psw was like don’t talk to them they don’t understand they are not really here. But I continued to treat the patient as a human as they should be but again the psw was like do you not hear me i just told you these people are not here they are a vegetable they don’t know what you are saying they are like dead stop talking to them. I was so shocked hearing this…and another shift i specifically asked my agency for one on one shift as my knee was paining and upon arrival the night shift nurse manager said work the floor and I said today I can’t that’s why i specifically asked for one on one cause my knee is hurting, and her response was go call WSIB! Sit home if your knee hurts why you here. And then she also proceeded to call my agency and complain why is she here refusing to work floor and then gave me the phone and I spoke to the agency person that i specifically asked for one to one for today as my knee hurts and even my agency was so rude about it and made me go home unpaid. There is absolutely no humanity left in people such heartless souls, why be in this field if you have no heart.

My experience with this home for the elderly, from multiple visits to one of the inmates, my relatives, is very, very bad for the following reasons: 1- They do not implement the instructions of the hospital doctors in physiotherapy for the elderly to activate them at all. Not even pass the elderly in his bed. 2- They give the elderly a lot of sedatives without any reason so that they do not ask them to go to the bathroom or for any request outside of mealtime, whether to go to the bathroom for example, so that the elderly stay in a permanent sleep so that the service team can rest from the requests of elderly patients. The family of the elderly to pay more than the cost that the government pays to the home for the care of the elderly. 4- The head of nursing at the home is completely uncooperative with the elderly's family and deals with them with extreme rudeness and disrespect. 5- They do not deal with sympathy or any love for the elderly, or even kindness to their sick condition. Unfortunately, the house is very, very bad, and the administration does not listen to any complaint from the elderly’s family.

I am worried for my Family member’s safety. When they were receiving care at Villa Forum they sustained an injury and they can no longer walk, that is causing more health complications due to their age. Villa Forum still cannot pin point exactly how it happened, and are not treating this as an urgent matter. This has been very hard for my family member and the rest of us considering we cannot be involved in person, or as much as we want to over the phone or FaceTime due to pandemic restrictions. Their poor procedures to follow up, resolve and to take accountability are shockingly inadequate, restrictive and lack open communication.UPDATE: New Ministry of Health Reports available for public viewing that list very concerning non-compliances that are impacting the safety of many.

After more than 10 years as a family member visiting Villa Forum, I have nothing but the absolute greatest respect and appreciation for this facility. My father was there first. My dad had to be admitted to LTC upon release from hospital. He was diagnosed with dementia and his care while there for almost 2 years was unbelievable. When he was at end of life and staff asked if I wanted him transferred to hospital, I chose to keep him in his home" on the third floor. His passing was handled with dignity. I'm forever grateful to Villa Forum staff. My mother was admitted to Villa Forum a few months before my dad passed. She has been there for close to 9 years. I truly believe she would not be here at all if it weren't for the outstanding care she receives each and every day at Villa Forum. There is not a chance that I or anyone else could look after all of her needs so well. Her physical needs and more importantly her emotional needs are handled with care. She contracted Covid-19 this past Easter weekend. At 100 years of age

The nurses especially Joanne and PSW Carmelita were the most caring and compassionate ladies. They treated my mom like their own family. However the disappointment and coldness of the Administration staff was what I really am upset at. Never returned calls, and just overall were not helpful. They were okay to take your money though. Mom died last week and the palliative nurses and PSW were wonderful. Not once did any of the admin staff call us or come up to see how my mom or my family was. When mom died they were so cold, they got rid of her belongings downstairs the next day and called my sister to come and pick up the stuff immediately. My mom had just died the night before. While picking up my mom's belongings the morning after her funeral, Ivana finally came out to offer her condolences after my mom was almost there for a year. Didn't even know who I was or who my mother was. Like I said the PSW and nurses are wonderful and caring but the admin staff is horrible to deal with.

I had the opportunity to work at Villa Forum in both a student and PSW-worker role for a couple of months. During my time here, I had the chance to build meaningful connections with the staff members on the floor, and in the office. With regards to my PSW role, all the other PSWs and nurses were very kind toward me. They knew I was not too familiar with this facility, so they took the time out of their extremely busy day to teach me what to do, provide me with directions, and answer all of my questions. The support, compassion, and leadership they have provided to help me navigate through this role was much appreciated and I will forever be grateful.Aside from my PSW role, I was able to work alongside Mona, the Assistant Director of Care. Mona was the most understanding and optimistic person I have ever directly worked with. She provided me with many different opportunities that allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone and build my confidence. Because of her, I have developed the necessary communication and leadership skills that are essential to my nursing career. Mona will devote her time to help you progress in many different areas that will improve your professionalism.I also got the chance to work closely with the other staff members in the office. All of you are dedicated to your work and I could recognize that from the moment I walked in (you guys need a break!) You all were very wonderful to be around. I loved how you didn’t treat me as just a student and included me in all your conversations and jokes. You guys have provided me such a joyful environment to be around – it has made coming into work so much more exciting.I would also like to give a special shoutout to Eleonora and Larry. Eleonora has always worked closely with me ever since I was a PSW. Eleonora is extremely hardworking, and genuine – I knew I could always count on her to provide me with extra support. I remember one time I was late for breakfast because I couldn’t figure out what one of the resident’s morning routine was. Without me saying anything, Eleonora showed up and took over so that I could serve in the dining room – I will never forget this act of kindness, especially during such a time of distress. Larry was always such a fun person to be around. His stories have taught me valuable lessons that I will carry with me throughout life. I knew that I could always turn to Larry to lighten my mood and to provide me with words of encouragement. From the staff members on the floor to the staff members working in the office, all of you are the reasons why Villa Forum has such a great reputation. You guys make Villa Forum shine! Keep up the great work and continue to strive for greatness (like you guys always do).#VillaForumStrong

I have worked at Villa Forum for some time now and I can confidently say it is such a beautiful home for your loved one. I have seen the dedication to making this place beautiful on a day to day and it’s been a blessing to be a part of. From the management to the front line staff, you see how each individual puts the residents first. People have often asked me, “off the record, how is this place, really?” I confidently respond, “I truly wouldn’t be working here if I didn’t believe my loved one could live a fulfilled end of life in this place if they moved here.” It has been a blessing to see how the residents make this their home, from playing cards and drinking espresso in the piazza, to cooking their favourite food together. While working here, I discovered that home is not a place, it’s a feeling. And when all the residents and staff come together, there’s no better feeling than seeing how they’ve made their own homes. The people in Villa Forum care deeply for the residents and they make the bet efforts to create a safe environment. The people that have worked there and that continue to persevere amidst the constant government mandates, confronting families/residents and ministry standards are truly the heroes, because they continue to do it all in love and love to see the residents comfortable and joyful.
