Totem Park Student Residence - Coquihalla Commonsblock

Parts of Totem Park are great and I'd definitely recommend it out of the residence options. However, if you bring a bike, you'll have to keep it in your room. Bikes are constantly stolen completely or have parts such as gear shifters removed, and UBC and Totem Park management will not take action to prevent it (no cameras etc.) They will however happily, for a few of course, allow you to rent an actually secure bike locker. It's unfortunate but the staff have shown they do not have student property safety in mind, just profits. Moreover, the food is ludicrously over priced and awful for you.

Wonderful building to dorm in! Floors are coed. People are great!! The bathrooms were renovated recently and are pretty nice. Two separate bathrooms on each floor and there are 2 stalls and 2 showers in each bathroom. There’s a lot of storage space in each room too. There’s a floor lounge on each floor with a fridge, sink, TV, and a couch. Overall, Shuswap House is an amazing first year dorm in Totem Park!! Really enjoyed living here!!

May be an underwhelming place to live at first, but depending on who you get on your floor and building, living here for first year at UBC may be thrilling.

I lived there almost 8 years ago, and I can say it was one (if not the best) residence in the whole campus. I loved how modern the building was and how much light the rooms had because of the big windows. I miss it every day...

Pretty decent for first year student housing. Rooms are SMALL, but there's enough room to fit what you need. They have different activities and events for the students to join all the time, so social life seems good. I didn't eat in the dining hall. I hear it's 'ok' most of the time. Campus is huge, and beautiful. Extremely clean.

Liveable, but only just.Rooms are about 2m by 3m, twin XL bed, rather long desk, plenty of storage space for whatever stuff you may bring. Aesthetics are rather lacking, brick walls and white paint similar to commercial or prison buildings. Communal washroom has five taps, four toilets, three showers. Also no wifi, you’ll need a router or wealthy friends.

Since my previous comment got removed for some unknown reason, I am writing a review again. My problem with this place is mostly the poor quality food and the rude staff members. There are several occasions which the cooks made funny faces and asked me to speak very loudly, although I was sure I was speaking in a very clear volume. The food is very salty, and expensive, combined with the employees' insulting attitudes truly appalls me. There are also spider webs in the interior of the dining hall, and insects flying around food stations, which makes me question this place's standard of sanitation. I am very disappointed with the poor choice of employees in this place, as I find the behavior of these unskillful employees cynical beyond belief.

Don’t talk too loud in your room. If you want to talk to your parents hide under your sheets. People will be able to here you from from neighbouring rooms as well as outside. They can hear you when you shower. They can hear you kicking the wall in the middle of your sleep. And you will be able to hear others too.Also they told us our bathroom was not clean two times and they charged us for the third inspection to clean the bathroom. Prior to the third inspection I had to email telling them we could guarantee that the washroom was spot clean and it was causing mistrusts between us and the residence staff. They emailed me saying they will check again and if the washroom is clean they would not charge us. The third time they arrived, the staff came to our washroom was about to “clean it” (I honestly think they are gonna pretend to clean it, because our washroom didn’t have a spot of dust) my Roomate told the worker that we have cleaned our room the previous inspection and they failed us for no reasons. And the staff said yes, our washroom was really clean. Like huh? You came with all your tools and you were about to clean a perfectly clean washroom! If we did not stop them they would have started their pretend cleaning! They seem to simply follow the instructions to “clean the bathroom”...

nice place for students. parking is a headache.
