I also have an autistic child who just turned 18. She also has other developmental disabilities and needed my help with her AISH application which I did as soon as I was able to, 6 months before she turned 18. Her birthday came and went and we have heard nothing. I tried to call several times but my call was never answered and there was no voice mail to leave a message. When I finally got through a little over a week before her birthday, I was told that she had no worker assigned yet and no decision was made. The person I talked to was also quite rude and condescending to me. I cannot imagine, my daughter having to deal with someone like that, considering she is already traumatized by her disabilities and she has an extremely low processing speed and no working memory. She would be so frustrated which I was for sure and I don't have any of her disabilities.I am quite shocked about how our vulnerable people are treated and I am shocked that we have not heard anything on her application even though we did as we were told and applied six months before her 18th birthday! I adopted my daughter from the foster system and was hoping to spare her the experiences that I have seen other youths in the system have when they age out. However, I don't seem to be able to get the supports she deserves. Where would she be if she wasn't with me? She needs the financial support, the health care and anything available to her. Are we pushing these vulnerable youths on the streets? Also, nobody seems to care about the psychological/emotional effect this has on them. My daughter has been through a lot in her young life and already has trust and abandonment issues. The message she keeps getting is that she is not important. Why setting up a system where you are told to get them assessed after their 16th birthday and have all the documentation ready for when you are finally allowed to apply and then, when you do everything correctly, you don't get the result you were promised and there is zero communication nor is there a way to reach someone?!

You send them an email, and they don't see it until the next day, because they print it on paper and actually carry it to the recipient. In 2023

I struggle with mental illness. And a lot of times the forms they require take a huge toll on my mh. They just call and say we will cut you off in 30 days. And often times I’d rather just let them do that and commit suicide. At the end of the month for atleast a week I sit in my terrible bachelors apartment I can’t afford with no food and no money to get on a bus to go anywhere. This isn’t necessarily aish’s fault it’s the provincial govt fault. I remember when AISH went up with the cost of living during the NDP. The UCP got govt they cut the amount and never increased it again. CERB was a slap in a face. Saying $2000 was a liveable wage. Why don’t we at minimum receive a liveable wage. I’d rather die than try to make AISH a comfortable way to live.

What a joke..I've been on aish for awhile now and they have so many rules and guidelines that as adults aren't even allowed to have on the income and I'm one of those adults. For a goverment funded program that offers this service, they don't pay for a bloody thing. Takes them forever to get answers back about the simplest of questions. They don't pay for anything or you have to fight them to do it. Even if you are employed you can't have a maximum dollar because then you won't qualify for the monthly income which is so stupid.

I have an autistic child who was approved for Aish the day he turned 18 his worker who I've spoken to first denied his direct deposit form it had to be stamped by the bank , then she tells me that my son will only recieve retroactive pay from the month he was approved not from the day he turned 18 eventhough it states that he's entitled to it . We had a very recent family tragedy and Christian has had no access to his medication and he is struggling finacially and emotionally . His worker has ignored our pleas for help just to obtain his prescriptions which he hasn't had access to in months . I have found this process to be extremely difficult and very hard to navigate and I am not the one who has autism so can you just imagine how difficult it would be for him to navigate? It's been five months and he still hasn't received anything eventhough he's approved and his worker was quote rude to me and I've had to now file complaints with disability advocates and I'm contacting government officials as this is unacceptable and appauling that our most weak and volnerable of the population are suffering as a result of these people . They have no compassion and empathy for my son who is suffering tremendously and he still has not received any of the fund's he's been approved for . I'm dumbfounded

This office and it's other locations in Alberta. Not a trustworthy, whole heartedly business, did a ton on homework on this company and it's services. Still have a ongoing issue and their team members and admins/directors themselves are all acting like cowards and pretending things don't exist and treat you highly unprofessional like. I'm actually in the mist of problems still with them but my legal team most likely are going to takeover and solve these things that these kids working there are causing still. This is my last chance for them, after this all gets resolved, I'm not going back to them as they too are affecting my money flow as well.

I have experienced nothing but clerical issues on THEIR END then them trying to gaslight me as the one who messed up and abuse of power issues with my Aish workers since the start of Aish. This month, September/2021 they failed to even pay the $1 to keep my bennifits in tact. This service has caused much more distress and health issues for me and I would urge to other people depending on Aish to have a representative protect you as the one who is sick and vunrable as I feel they have treated me in highly inappropriate and unprofessional ways throught my two years relying on this service.
