What an amazing and special placeLike a piece of heaven. Gorgeous scenery and world class food. Worth a very narrow drive up the mountain and lots of trails around to enjoy.

Bear Bistro at Island Lake Lodge
Patio is magical and very busy. Plan for a wait between 12-2.Had the Reuben sandwich. Completely vegetarian. Was yummy then the angel food cake with lavender merguine, that was divine.Relaxed on some of the hammocks around the grounds then went for a 3 minute walk to the lake. Worth it taking a look. Stunning viewings.

Bear Bistro at Island Lake Lodge
My family and I were quite excited to enjoy a lunch at the Bear Lodge Bistro today after a long day hiking. We ordered our meals and I treated myself to a ceasar cocktail. When it arrived it was very dark brown in colour than red, and tasted horrible. I politely shared my disappointment with the drink with our server and requested that it be remade as I was unable to drink any of it. The server advised that she was only able to oblige unless I purchased another. I was flabbergasted at this unfair policy and ended up leaving an untouched drink at the end of our meal. I won't be coming back to this establishment any time soon.

Bear Bistro at Island Lake Lodge
The food was delicious and service was good. I had the crispy chicken sandwich, caramelized onion and bacon flatbread and weekly farmers market pasta feature. They offer a full selection of Fernie Brewing Co beers as well as some unique lavender and mint raspberry cocktails. The patio has a spectacular view so if you’re able to sit outside, I highly recommend it. It’s well worth driving up to this beautiful spot. Perfect day trip if you go for a small hike around Island Lake, then finish off the day with some drinks and food.

Bear Bistro at Island Lake Lodge
The burger I ordered wasn't fully cooked; the potatoes were hard and flavorless, and their craft root beer was underwhelming (especially for the price). As somewhat of a burger connoisseur, this was both the most expensive and the worst burger I've had in a long time. Try the brie burger at the Brickhouse if you're looking for a great burger.The lodge on the other hand is very beautiful and is a nice destination for the old growth trail hike.

I have been here before and was looking forward to it. The service was slow. Each plate of food tasted off. I too had the ceasar and it tasted like pickle juice. Was not a positive experience.

Lunch was delicious and reasonably priced. Views are spectacular, second to none. Have been a repeat customer every time we visit the area. Highly recommend.

Bear Bistro at Island Lake Lodge
We came to do the Lake Trail just located behind the Bear Lodge. It was a nice quick hike to do with our two kids (5 and 8). The trail loops around the lake and we chose to go to the right first. The path is easy with not much of a climb that would make you go out of breath! There is a stream midway and at the end of the trail there is a little clearing where we got to see an animal like a prairie dog. The kids loved that part the best. We had lunch after the hike at the Bear Lodge and it was delicious. We ordered the pork belly bites and the grilled salmon tacos. They also have a kids menu that had all the things kids love. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly! I would recommend anyone to try this hike and have lunch at the lodge.

Chicken wings were uncooked and raw even though the waitress reassured us that the wings were precooked and brought in from elsewhere (!) The flatbread was stale, burnt on the outside, and the chicken topping was rubbery and clearly prepackaged. The entire meal appeared to have arrived frozen on the back of a Sysco delivery truck. When questioned about inclusion of the raw wings on the bill, the server indicated that because the food is ‘cooked’ and packaged offsite, it's not Island Lake Lodge's problem. Not the culinary lunch experience we were looking for at any price. Go for the view and a beverage, but enjoy your meal at one of the fine establishments in Fernie proper.
