Chez François - Plaisirs de Provence

What a great discovery, this store is a real gem. They carry tons of homemade products, and so many items that are just impossible to find anywhere else! (Think warm croissants made with French butter…) worth taking the time to walk around the shop and chat with the owners.

A young energetic couple recently purchased the business from the founder who retired. While the dining service was not restored after COVID, the new management has maintained the variety of European specially foods. Best of all they are using the original recipes for croissants and other specialists. Best in town.

An interestingly eclectic collection of Provençal feeling products with cafe tables placed in little nooks and crannies around the store. The brunch food is also very good and certainly not Parisian but rather good French country fare. Very friendly bilingual staff. Wonderful place for a lazy mid morning brunch.

So great, especially brunch. Can be a bit hard to find a table, but it’s worth the wait. Also the staff are so nice.UPDATE: they don’t serve brunch anymore. But still very worth checking out, delicious unique things you can’t find anywhere else.

What a great shop! Try the apple turnovers yummy. Since it is under new owners I love this store! Shopped until I dropped. My hosting will be grand with all the jams and jellies, and great advice. Try the roasted Garlic and Balsamic jelly. It was a hit at my last gathering.

Walking inside this French deli and boutique was a bit like being transported into a pocket of France. I loved the atmosphere, and was nearly overwhelmed by the sheer amount of goods inside for such a small shop! Half the store is a home goods section with nice items like classic cookware, decor, candles, etc. and the other half is the food market, of which there was an awesome assortment of loose teas, spices, cheeses, meats and baked goods. The spice section really caught my eye in particular, as I found some things that are a bit of a rarity in non specialty shops. I also want to mention that Chez François is an active member of the Too Good To Go community here in Ottawa, and their commitment to fighting food waste is admirable. I recently picked up a bag from them and the goods were not only really high quality, but all extremely tasty and well worth the money spent!

Everything I’ve tried from here (cheeses, croissants, caramel candies, jams and sandwiches) has been fantastic! The owners really know their stuff and make great recommendations!
