I would HIGHLY recommend Dave as a paddling instructor! He is a very knowledgeable and experienced paddler, is always calm and polite, and demonstrates the skills in a clear and concise manner. I feel fortunate to have taken the level 1 kayaking skills course with Dave as my confidence and skills in the boat improved dramatically and we had ample opportunity to practice what we learned. I am excited to use what I have learned in my next ocean kayaking adventures and taking more courses with West Beach Paddle!

West Beach Paddle
I took my level 1 kayak course with Dave recently, and could not have had a better experience. The pacing of the course was perfect -- not too fast, but not so slow that I ever got bored -- and Dave was a very patient and encouraging instructor. I appreciated the focus on paddling skills and weather, in addition to rescues, and I feel a lot more confident in a kayak now. You can see how much Dave loves kayaking, and I will definitely be back for the level 2 course!

We recently took our first kayaking lesson with David and it was everything we wanted it to be. He was a great instructor who is not only very knowledgeable but was very good at conveying the various techniques to the class. He provided good feedback and worked with us individually to ensure we got it right. Most importantly he provided a safe but fun environment for us to learn. We look forward to doing more classes soon. Highly recommended West Beach Paddle.

I completed a Level 1 Skills course with Dave as our instructor this weekend. While I was a bit nervous and pushing outside of my comfort zone, I felt that I had enough time and space to practice and ask enough questions to feel confident applying my new skills. Dave was a patient and awesome instructor - I highly recommend!

My wife and I had taken an beginners course many years ago but wanted to refresh our skills as we had never kayaked in the intervening years. The course was great and we learned lots of new things. The class only had 3 people and the one on one instruction was great. The teaching takes into consideration the “social distancing” requirements of today. Great course, we’ll worth it!

Took Sea Kayak Level 1 Course. What a great instructor! Dave from the very first contact was well organized, thorough and extremely patient. There was enough time to learn all the needed skills and plenty of practice and paddle time. If your nervous and have been putting this off, don't! it's very safe and I highly recommend West Beach Paddle.

Took a level 1 certification course with Dave. Easily one of the best instructors I've ever had. He was calm, very knowledgeable, and patient with the group. He really knows his stuff and I came away from the course with more knowledge and skills than I expected.

I appreciated so many things about these lessons! I took the Level 1 kayaking course. Dave is very conscientious about the weather and how that may impact the quality of the lesson. He adjusted the location in both weekends I participated in courses. He also provided wet suits and a fresh dry one when I fell into the water within half an hour of the day (so appreciated as it was quite cold). He's patient and aware of subtle shifts we need to make to do the techniques appropriately and there is a good balance between learning and practicing the techniques. I found his instructions easy to follow and I definitely improved on my paddle skills.

Excellent course! Dave is a great teacher...patiently demos and repeats skills until you get it. Lots of time to try skills out and ask questions. Would highly recommend his courses to learn kayaking skills!
