Start with the pretzel, end with the strudel, and fill up on as much as you can in-between. This was a fantastic, hearty meal flush with options for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Recommend bringing friends so you can try everything. Our server was working solo that night but did an excellent job - very friendly and kept things bustling. She recommended a great non-alcoholic riesling that I really enjoyed. (But do please restock your non-alcoholic Erdinger! That would have have been perfection!)Thanks! Will be back with a crowd. :)

Visiting from Ontario and boy were we wowed! The atmosphere was fun and homey. We ordered the soft pretzel which arrived warm and yummy - trying to figure out how to pack those to bring home. There is a cucumber radish salad that is so nice and fresh and we tried the pickle herring, which we had never had, but really enjoyed. We would highly recommend this restaurant for a date night, group of friends or family. Will definitely be back. Chef Ian has got a great thing going!

As a preamble to this review, this was my first time eating authentic German food, so I can't compare how well this stacks up in terms of authenticity. However, as you'll read, I had a wildly positive experience and, to skip to the ending for a second, thoroughly enjoyed the food.A friend and I were looking for an interesting restaurant with perhaps food we had not tried before, and this certainly fit the bill. Once you enter, you can tell that they are also trying to give you the theme or experience of an authentic restaurant as well with the music and decorative style. This is an odd thing to speak positively about, but I really appreciated their food menu, including how it was styled. A very concise list of dishes (if I recall correctly, it was 4 entrees and 4 mains), with one entree and one main having a different background color... That being the pretzel and the schnitzel. As a newcomer, I very much appreciated the simultaneous obvious yet subtle standing out of the dish you may want me to look at first (hopefully that was intended). Of course, with them having gone through that effort, I opted to pick both of the highlighted items, along with a weissbier. The server helpfully mentioned that I really should add the optional cheese and mustard sauce. We'll come back to that liquid gold in a bit; thank goodness he mentioned it or I would have missed out badly. Finally, we come to the food. The weissbier was nice and smooth; I'm terrible with specifics, so I can't describe the taste, but I can certainly tell you I enjoyed it. The pretzel was definitely the best pretzel I've ever had in my life; while the included butter was definitely nice, the cheese sauce was mind blowing. Maybe it's just me; I'm pretty particular when it comes to cheese, so my expectations are always lukewarm when trying some new type of cheese anything. But DAMN, I really enjoyed the flavor and consistency of this cheese sauce, and it paired perfectly with the pretzel. After I was done with that, the waiter again helpfully chimed in that I should try dipping my schnitzel in my leftover cheese sauce. The schnitzel (and accompanying spatzle, I think it was?) was definitely great, and again the cheese sauce really elevated that dish for me. Can you tell I reeeeeeeally liked that sauce? Unfortunately, I don't recall the name of what my friend had ordered (a bacon wrapped dish I believe?), but they also thoroughly enjoyed it. Again, I'm no professional food critic, but these dishes certainly ranked highly as some of the best I've had in recent memory.Considering how much of a positive experience that supper was, I really felt compelled to write a review and hope that others go check it out!

My fiance and I stumbled across this place by accident, and we were utterly blown away by the food and service. Not only was it reminding me of my German grandma, it was wholesome, simple, pure, and delicious with a ton of flavour and love put in. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a perfect night out. Our server was personable, kind, and full of heart. Will absolutely be back. Kudos to Chef Ian and the team for a brilliant job, well done!!

Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. The house pretzel and potato pancakes were a big hit with our table…and they were exactly as described on the menu. I had the dumplings in brothwhich was a very tasty vegetarian option. The others in our party had the schnitzel and gave it very high marks. There was a good choice of beer and we finished off with homemade apple streudel. Well done Chef Ian and all the staff…PMQ is a great restaurant.

Came here on a stormy night in December and was not disappointed! My wife and I shared a warm pretzel with Weissbier cheese, Spätzle (with roasted hazelnuts, smoked gouda & asparagus) and Schweinshaxe washed down with a few Edingers. Everything was delicious and served piping hot. The sweet bad boy" butter and the Weissbier cheese went along great with the authentic pretzel as appetizers. The Spätzle was creamy and rich and a great on a winter night. Having previously had Schweinshaxe at Hofbrauhaus & Haxnbauer in Munich I wasn't sure what to expect from a new spot in Halifax but was not disappointed in the least. The crispy outer skin was crunchy and full of flavor and the melt in your mouth meat underneath went great with a balanced sauce and sweet braised apple to add some sweetness to each bite. Chef was able to take a moment to come out and chat with us about the restaurant and their inspirations which was also great ! Also have lots of Vegetarian options which I don't always expect from German restaurants. Only thing I would change would be to add some bright bulbs down the stairs to the bathroom down as they were a little dark ! Will definitely be back!"

This is hands down the best German food I’ve ever had! Very flavourful and perfectly cooked. Service was excellent, and I loved the photos displayed around the dining area. We had the schnitzel and schweinshaxe, both were beyond expectation! I highly recommend checking this place out if you like delicious food!

Amazing food can’t wait to go back! Server was lovely as well. I recommend trying the pretzel with sweet butter, the schnitzel and spatzle with mushroom gravy, as well putting their beer and mustard cheese sauce on anything and everything, it is incredible!
