The historically strategic location of this site overlooking the harbour is immediately clear when you visit it. The site is clean, offers car parking at the top and is wheelchair accessible. The view of the Bay of Fundy is good. However, the city centre of Saint John at the left-hand side has many uninspired (or should I say ugly) office buildings, and the right-hand side is a container port lined by a busy highway bridge. This makes for a mediocre view at best. One is certainly not put in mind of Florence and the many treasures therein...City planners could have created a gem of this city-on-the-hill-by-the-sea but failed abjectly to create a harmonious centre on the scale of humans. When you are already in Saint John, then I recommend a visit, but I would not travel a great distance just to see it.

Loads of history here! Haven't been in a few years but spent lots of time learning my guitar when I lived near here! I need to go back and soon!

An historic spot in Saint John. There’s a lovely view of the harbour from Fort Howe. Nice for an evening visit.

Great views easy to find, Harbor Passage to get there is amazing, photos are of the Passage at night by the harbor not of view from the Fort

While this is an interesting site with an incredible view, with this fort locked up tight, you're basically on your own to imagine what it's like inside. C'mon New Brunswick, tourists are an income source, not a PITA.

Thought it was an actual fort so we were a little dissappointed. The view was quite beautiful though.

Closed for the winter but you can still walk up. Not much to see for the fort itself, one building and two cannons. Good views of the city though but hardly worth seeing. Probably took about 45 min to hike up, walk around and head back down. No other visitors here.

Atop the main hill right by Saint John, you can easily walk, bike, or drive up to the National Historic Site. It was originally built in 1777 and still stands today. There's some old cannons as well. The wooden structure itself is locked off, with no entry inside. From here, you can easily get to the other side of the hill for some great views of the city.
