Southwest Garden Supplies

It's hit and miss, the main woman is great there and counter staff are friendly. Loading is often tediously slow. The main fellow is extremely grumpy and the delivery drivers are often a little dim, they do not follow instructions and ask multiple times for clarification on simple instructions such as dump on the road. I've seen bone head maneuvers such as dumping on the lawn, clipping wires with the dumpbox, the worst was oversupply of 2 extra yards of large river rock. None of which responsibility was taken. I use the bulk delivery or materials for convenience of location or I'd go to ground works.

Lots of Garbage in top dressing for lawns! I purchased a couple of yards of top dressing from southwest May 1, 2018 and spread it over my lawn. Then fertilized, over-seeded and watered it in. Next day, inspected my work only to find lots of garbage all over my lawn. Plastic bag bits, hard plastic bits, broken glass, fruit stickers etc. I called in right away and got a long winded explanation about how the soils are tested and meet landscape standards. They said the soil comes from composted materials at the vancouver land-fill. They said it’s heat treated and only a few pieces of plastic “may” have slipped through. I can understand a few bits of garbage but within a 2’x2’ square I found 15-20 bits. I also found a 5” piece of metal.I inspected my lawn very carefully before adding the southwest lawn dressing. I de-thatched by hand and know there was not a single piece of plastic or garbage in my yard.Do not buy the lawn dressing!!!Response to owner:It is irrelevant to me where you purchase your material from. Your explanation doesn’t change the fact my lawn is now covered in garbage. Your company did refund my purchase but what about the time I must now take to clean my yard? I do not wish to continue an on-line debate with you about his matter. I posted my review to make other potential customers aware of the risks in purchasing composted soils from your company. You are welcome to visit my home to see for yourself.

Staff here is nice and very helpful. They had a great selection of rocks lol i had a hard time deciding which ones for my garden but am happy with the ones i chose to use to mix in the existing ones... would definitely go back here when in need of rocks or anything else they have here for my townhouse patio/yard again (hopefully the raccoon stops steeling them lol).Thanks!

Fast service, terrible productI ordered top soil from this company, for planting veggies. Great and fast service, but the soil is full of plastic and I keep picking up bags of garbage from the soil before I can plant anything. It is disgusting. I will never return. It has pieces of plastic bags, plastic labels from fruits and veggies, strings, beads, pieces of glass, etc. It is terrible to plant anything in it.

Came to check them out for the first time and had an fantastic experience. Great customer service, picked up some local grass seed and fertilizer. They have a large supply of high quality gardening tools as well. Bulk soil products also look like they're good quality. Will definitely come back in the future!

Southwest Garden Supplies has been an integral partner in our community school garden. Our school put out a call for donations to plant a garden and build garden boxes on the school grounds. Southwest Garden was the first to reply and gave us a huge donation that enabled us to create a beautiful garden for all the students to enjoy! We are very indebted to them for their generosity! We buy all our supplies from them as they have the best quality tools and soils as well as a huge variety of plants, shrubs and trees. They are incredibly helpful and patient with all our needs. Both people on the phone were great. I ordered their garden soil mix and was a little worried since it looked like the manure in it wasn't completely broken down. However, my garden just took off this year. Everything is monsterous in size and growing crazing and I'm really happy with the service and purchase

Very helpful and professional staff. Amrit took the time to show me the bulk soils and gave good recommendations on what to use for raised beds and planter boxes. The delivery also went very smoothly. Would definitely recommend Southwest Garden Supplies to others.

I bought 6 fruit trees, 2 vines, and a osmanthus. The same day of purchase, I found one branch of osmanathus has different color (lighter than other). I did not take it serious, and later the plant started to dry from that branch. When trees start to open their leaves I found out one of them is dead and 2 of them have lots of dead branches. Not recommended for plants but they have good mulch, compose, etc. The lady in the garden is not honest person. But other staffs are polite.

We received a generous soil donation from SWGS this past spring. The veggie mix smelled great, had a deep rich colour and looked uniform and clean. Our plants grew well and the soil retained moisture with a bit of help from a top mulch of straw. The customer service was exceptional and the delivery was prompt. Our students loved the experience of the delivery too.
