Had the best time out on the Elk River with Elk River Guiding Company. Being relatively still new to fly fishing and bringing my dad along who has never gone before, we were both a bit nervous we would have a hard time, but Tyler was the best instructor and guide you could ask for. I learned more in the car ride to the boat launch than I have in reading the internet and fishing on my own in the past two years. I cannot wait to come back to Fernie and go for a guided float again. These guys are knowledgeable, passionate and friendly. Couldn’t ask for a better way to spend a Saturday.

I dont really write reviews but I really wanted to because I had so much good experience with this store.I did guide trip with Andy in Elk, and he would be the person you would want to go fishing with who has a good heart. He corrected me with my casting and gave me lots of practical advices. My casting improved so much better after this trip and I can finally read a water a bit. Beautiful scenery and gorgeous pretty Cutts.End up getting the new fly rod that works better for me and lots of flies at the store. Boys are really helpful!You should drop by :)

Ladies did wait on me in the store and were very polite and friendly, but the older guy in the store was non-verbal and I'm pretty sure he hasn't smiled at anyone in years. But, as fly shops go, it was pretty much like all the others I've shopped. I would like to mention to anyone visiting the area from the United States that it is a below average fly fishing destination. The province considers you a non-resident alien". Which essentially means your fishing opportunities in the area are going to be quite limited unless you go through an outfitter. Which to be honest is probably the only way you're going to want to fish the Elk River. The other wadeable streams are also on a lottery system of sorts and the drawing is in March. If are lucky enough to draw a daily permit

Thank you so much Paul for the recommendation to use a streamer while euronymphing. The baited treble hook let me catch at least 20 fish in 2 hours. I will definately recommend my friends come ask for your help euronymphing in the future.

What started as a once in a lifetime experience is now an annual tradition… second time back, world class operation. Paul and his team are a well oiled machine, SUPER cool shop, and the fishing… well, you wouldn’t believe me if I told you;)

I was two hours deep into a stroller walk with my daughters when I stopped by the shop to pick up some bear spray and check out the selection of rain jackets. Not only did they have the bear spray and a full size run of many great jackets, they also helped me carry in my stroller and even kept the impatient kiddos entertained while I was able to try on jackets. It was amazing and I’m so appreciative! I now have all my gear and I’m ready to hit the trails rain or shine. I’ll definitely be back!

This is THE guide company to go with! Took great care of us and we had a great first day on the Elk River despite the awful winds!

What a great experience we had with Andy and the supporting staff at the store. Our particular day was pretty cold and rainy but the team at Elk river was still eager to get us out on the Elk. Andy was knowledgeable and supportive the entire trip. Helping us cast better, always covering us with the correct fly, and giving tips on operating a boat. The provided lunch was good as well. The main was a bagel with avocado, cream cheese, and spinach. The sides were a bean and corn salad with some fruit and a cookie. We went out in a Hyde boat which was well maintained and filled with extra rods and beverages. I would not hesitate to recommend Andy and the team again. We will be coming back out to fish the rivers around Fernie with the team at Elk River

Had a great day out with Steve Harris from Elk River. His knowledge and professionalism as a guide was clearly evident. I have had several guided trips over my years but this one was the best ever. Even though it rained and was cold we did manage to catch fish and enjoy the Elk River. Thanks to Leah who got me all set up in the shop a d to all the friendly staff at the store. Was a very pleasant day!
