I had the Clam chowder which at first look seemed thin only until I got into it. It was creamy, just rich enough and delicious using the bread appetizer for dipping. Fantastic. Might be the best ever and a nice size serving. The wife and I both had the strip loin steak which was the special. I am a foodie and my wife of 18 years is not. On many occasions where I am happy with a meal the wife's response is always its ok". You can imagine my surprise when the wife actually said that this was real good. 1st time in 18 years she was happy enough with a meal to say so. Ever! I was already in Carstairs so we didn't go out of our way on this visit. I could see where we would happilymake the 40 minute drive from N.W Calgary to Villa Maria for another delightful meal."

If you don't mind taking a leisurely drive to Carstairs, I strongly suggest setting a reservation to Villa Maria's. With social distancing protocols in place, the restaurant was quite busy. You could also do takeout and pickup, but order in advance as there was a continual line of people coming in for takeout. Danny and Maria ran I'l Pescatore restaurant in Calgary in the recent past so they have really good experience with Italian cuisine. The menu is classic Italian and I highly recommend the specials as you can't go wrong with whatever Maria cooks up for the day. I ordered the Osso Buco (Veal Shank) with risotto and veggies. My wife ordered stuffed ricotta ravioli with Pesto sauce and added chicken. WOW! Both dishes were exceptional! The veal was slowly cooked for 24 hours and just melted off the bone and the Ravioli was cooked to perfection and the homemade pesto cream sauce was delicious. They also have a diverse Al Forno pizza menu which we will try another time. Danny and the staff are great and made the experience great for us. We ordered the Chicken Parmesan and another Veal Shank (pictured) for the next day. The pricing for these meals were excellent and didn't break the bank. I highly recommend Villa Maria!

If you don't mind a little bit of a drive north of the city..... This is our go to Italian restaurant. Danny and Maria are so amazing and welcoming.Hands down the best Italian food I have ever had! Their lemon chello is amazing.Thanks DannyJennifer and Tobin

Villa Maria have special signature dishes recommended to customers.The Ravioli rose sauce with mushrooms and veal Parmigiana were delicious, huge portions. Tiramisu is the best.

5 Stars are not enough. What a hidden gem. It exceeds expectations. Great staff!!!! Seafood Linguine was exceptional. Prawns in Lemon butter sauce, oh my. Fresh bread was delicious. Creme Brulee was maybe one of the best I've ever had.Can't wait to go back

We had a bad experience. We ordered bruschetta the bread was stale and hard. We weren’t complaining but the waitress asked what was wrong we just said the bread was stale. Then she made it obvious that she went and told the owners and then was rude to us for the remainder of our dinner. We heard her talking about us in the back - super unprofessional. Our main courses were ok but very average for ‘authentic Italian’. Not fresh pasta and too much sauce plus add ons like potatoes and peppers that don’t go with a chicken parmigiana.We will not be recommending this place or returning.

Just moved to the area and hairdresser told us about this place. It was amazing. We both had the specials, husband a pasta, myself a snapper. SOOO good. Average plate cost will be $25 to $30. Good portions, I went home with left overs. Only thing I could say is that it was not very busy and our service was kind of slow. Took waitress 15 min to take our order, food came out fast, but she never checked on us the whole time. Too bad, as it kind of dampened the experience for me. Ending on a positive, the Tiramisu was probably the best I ever had. Desserts are $10.Place is casual, clean, bright and was a nice surprise to find such good food in a small little town. Will I go back again? OH YEAH!

Excellent Valentines dinner. Great menu and service. Might have to make it an annual affair, with of course visits in between. We chose 2 appetizers, salad to share, a pasta dish, entree, and 2 desserts, (the chocolate covered strawberries were amazing), along with wine and a special coffee (Spanish coffee, the best!). Always friendly intimate service. Thank you Villa Maria.
