Michael Altshuler Violin Shop

I recently visited Michael's workshop to purchase a violin, upon my violin teacher's recommendation, and I couldn't be happier with my experience. From the start, Michael was extremely accommodating, agreeing to meet with me on short notice.Prior to my visit, I emailed Michael with information about what I was looking for and my budget. I had originally assumed that purchasing a violin from a luthier would be out of my price range, but I was pleasantly surprised! Although violins made from scratch by Michael would be priced above my modest budget, Michael was able to offer me three high-quality violins set up and adjusted by him at different price points that fit my criteria and budget.During my visit, Michael was very patient, allowing me to take my time to try out the violins and offering his professional suggestions. Michael's background as a violinist himself gave me added confidence in his work as a luthier. Michael also has a great collection of bows made by him, as well as other accessories such as cases and shoulder rests. I was able to walk away with everything I needed from him, and didn't need to go elsewhere to buy other accessories. I particularly enjoyed using Michael's bow!After taking my new violin home, I noticed an issue with the tightness of the fine tuners on the tailpiece. Michael suggested a simple solution to try and offered to replace the tailpiece if the issue persisted. When I brought the violin back for the tailpiece replacement, Michael did a full inspection of the violin and made other needed adjustments.Throughout my interactions with Michael, he displayed a high level of expertise in all things related to violins. I am a curious person and always have a lot of questions, but Michael was always happy to answer any questions that I had.Overall, my visit to Michael's workshop was a wonderful experience, and I would highly recommend him to anyone in search of a new violin or in need of maintenance adjustments.

Maestro Altshuler, I cannot thank you enough for the work you have done for my cello and the rehair on my bow. Absolutely flawless work and your expertise and years of experience really show. To those who consider themselves to be a serious string musician or you require only the best luthier to do repair or rehair, Michael Altshuler is the only one you should trust your life and your precious instrument with. He is the very best hands down and you should not go anywhere else, I implore you. He is a very funny, charming, and generous man. The work he did on my bridge and my bow is unparalleled. He has the magic touch. It is like night and day when comparing the before and after condition of my cello. God bless you sir!
