Cheney's Zen Karate & Kickboxing Studios

Been training here for six years and counting, the classes are phenomenal and i’ve seen a significant increase in my fitness abilities. I also feel prepared for any self defence scenario i may find myself in. Would recommend this to anyone.

My daughter has been training at Cheney Karate for 9 years and counting. She started as a 5 yr old in the Little Dragons program and is now a brown belt training for her black belt. Sensei Cheney is tough but fair, highly skilled and knowledgeable, maintains high standards of training, and has a deep respect for the traditions and philosophy of karate. All instructors treat the students with respect, and all students are expected to treat the instructors and their fellow students with respect too. When my daughter was injured (from a different sport), Sensei Cheney allowed her all the time she needed to heal and return to karate training. There was no pressure to come back before she was ready.Students of Cheney Karate truly know their stuff, and I would recommend this studio to anyone.

I am proud to be a member of this club. Master Cheney is the real deal. Not only is he an upstanding member of red deer, he is an excellent martial artist. The caliber of training that he gives is top notch, and he produces results.

This place have change my life. I had no experience in martial art when i started learning Muay Thai Kickboxing from Sensei Cheney. My experience with Sensei Cheney he was patient and always give you good feed back to make you much better fighter. He is very delicate to his students. Muay Thai Kickboxing is the best sport for cardio and build confident. I lost about 40 lbs and still counting. Like I said this place change my life. Highly recommend to everyone who is in Red Deer looking for kickboxing, this is the place to train. People are nice and they train with you at your level. I made some new friends here and they had help me to be much better fighter.

When you begin karate or are putting your children in karate you want a place that will both teach you the traditional aspects of karate but also prepare for the brutal world. Sensei Lyle Cheney does both. I have been in this Dojo for 10 years and have learnt so much from him. Karate keeps you active and helps protect yourself. Cheney’s is the best karate place in red deer indefinitely. I would 100% recommend.

I deffinetly recommend training here. I am currently enrolled in the Beginner Kickboxing classes. Very welcoming atmosphere and it is a great way to get/stay in shape. The instructors are very knowledgeable. 5/5

From the get go, Sensei Cheney was very accomodating with all my questions. Have only completed 2 classes, however the patience level with him and sensei Brian is very refreshing. It fosters a great learning environment. They do not allow you to cut corners and teach with excellence and pride. I am looking forward to the many classes and years to come.

The payment plan for our 6 year old trainee leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately the training season does not follow the school year. We were told a year commitment, after a short introductory period, is common with karate studios and dance studios (it's not). Dance Magic follows the school season, finals are in May, we find out now. Our little guy decided karate wasn't for him in Jan, he stuck it out until June, declined to return after the summer holidays. Unfortunately we committed to one year last November, tough. Recommend doing research to find best fit.

Cheney Karate is strict and fair. He is very professional and my son learned a lot from him. I recommend this studio to anyone who wants to learn karate.
